Job summary This post is an important part of our ongoing development of medical services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to work closely with the existing oncologists to provide a high standard of care across the Trust. We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation. This is a substantive appointment, based at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in Northwood and the Lister Hospital. The post comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs) and an on-call commitment. At Mount Vernon, the post holder will be expected to work with members of the CNS and urology SMDT to plan and supervise the oncology treatment of patients. At the Lister Hospital site the post holder will work closely with the urology multidisciplinary teams to provide a safe and high-quality outpatient oncology service. Main duties of the job We currently provide adult primary CNS tumour treatment for a large population covering Hertfordshire, Luton, South Bedfordshire and Northwest London. We work very closely with the Neurosurgical team at National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square and Addenbrooke's and join the MDT meetings with both centres. The post holder will join an active unit which currently constitute 1 clinical Oncologist and 1 Medical Oncologist supported by the CNS. With increased workforce, and the proposed change in governance, there is the exciting opportunity of expanding the service and more collaborative work with these units. We are research active and run multiple clinical trials including investigator led and trust sponsored research. The clinical oncology post holder would be encouraged to develop innovative clinical research activity in urology & CNS malignancies. Research opportunities are excellent and Mount Vernon is active in national and international trials. There is excellent peer support led by each tumour lead. The Trust has a comprehensive programme of leadership mentoring available for newly qualified Consultants. Opportunities are also available to other Consultant appointees to play an active part in the programme.
