With an impressive portfolio of projects exceeding £200 million, they are expanding their engineering team and seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to be based in Sunderland.\n\nThis role offers exposure to technically challenging and high-impact projects, from concept through to commissioning, across a range of regulated and complex environments.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nEnsure the technical integrity and compliance of all electrical engineering deliverables within scope, schedule, and safety parameters.\n\nLead and coordinate cross-discipline collaboration between technical, process, and design teams as well as subcontractors and project managers.\n\nAct as the primary technical liaison with clients—providing clarity on scope, gathering feedback, and supporting risk mitigation.\n\nSupport proposals and bids by contributing to:\n\nConceptual electrical system designs\n\nLoad schedules\n\nComponent specifications\n\nResource and time estimates\n\nReview and validate engineering scope, contracts, client specifications, and schedules during handover and project execution.\n\nEnsure designs adhere to relevant standards and regulations, including IET Wiring Regulations, CE/UKCA, and ATEX where applicable.\n\nDrive value engineering initiatives and support continuous improvement across design and delivery processes.\n\nRequired Qualifications & Experience\n\nHNC (or higher) in Electrical and/or Controls Engineering.\n\nExperience leading engineering teams within a contract or project-focused environment.\n\nStrong understanding of electrical/control systems for material handling in harsh industrial conditions.\n\nFamiliarity with mechanical processes and their integration into broader systems.\n\nDeep knowledge of electrical distribution, control, and protection system design.\n\nSound understanding of design risk assessments, safety legislation, and compliance standards.\n\nStrong communication skills and confidence in client-facing roles and technical meetings.\n\nAwareness of ATEX standards and hazardous area equipment selection is advantageous.\n\nExperience in value engineering and supporting commercial decision-making during the design process.\n\nWhy Apply?\n\nWork on major UK infrastructure and energy transition projects\n\nJoin a collaborative, growth-focused engineering team\n\nCompetitive salary and performance-based bonus\n\nOpportunities for progression and professional development\n\nContribute to complex, high-impact industrial and energy design solutions\n\nInterested in applying your design leadership skills to some of the UK’s most challenging infrastructure projects?\n Apply now or reach out for a confidential discussion
