Job Description : Support Worker Pay : £14.50 per hour / £21.00 per hour Bank Holidays Refer a Friend Scheme - £250 awarded (T&C's apply) We are committed to Equal opportunities. We are currently recruiting for Full time, part time and Bank Support Workers to support an individual with Prader Willi syndrome, Moderate Learning Difficulties, ADHD, Anxiety and who is undergoing an assessment for Autism in SHREWSBURY on a 2:1 basis. Please note we are not a recruitment agency. About the individual Hi I am 19 and I have diagnoses of Prader Willi Syndrome, ADHD, Anxiety and Learning Difficulties. I am also undergoing an Autism assessment. Due to my complex needs, I do experience frustration, anxiety and overwhelm, and I mostly communicate this through my behaviour. Whilst I do display behaviours of concern, I think that sometimes people just see my difficulties and don’t work to understand me as a whole person. I can get anxious and frustrated when I find things difficult, but most importantly I am cheerful, engaging and creative. I have a great sense of humour and my goal in life is to have a job where I care for others. I am sociable with those that know me well and enjoy a full activity schedule. I have a passion for music, animals, and problem-solving, and being as independent as possible My family are really important to me, and I enjoy visits from my parents, as well as regular phone calls with them too. Day to day, I need to be kept busy, and I would like to look at more activities available for me and I need support workers who are enthusiastic to support me with these. A perfect day for me would be chatting with staff, listening to music (particularly Ed Sheeran), doing activities such as horse-riding, dog walking, swimming, clothes shopping, having some down time completing jigsaws and wordsearches, and then have a nice long soak in the bath It is really important that I have a routine to ensure that I can make sense of the world around me. I have a really unique way of seeing the world, and by having consistent structure and routine, it helps lower my anxiety and enjoy being around people I care for, whilst engaging in fun community activities. When being supported I work best getting lots of praise and positive affirmations from staff, alongside a supportive, person-centred approach focused on helping to me understand the context of a situation. I communicate verbally but I sometimes need support to communicate when I am distressed or upset. I also like staff to try and give my choice where possible, but this must be in line with my support plans. Having Prader Willi Syndrome means that food is very important to me, and I live in a constant state of hunger. I need support workers that can keep very firm boundaries with me around food to keep me safe. These include the principles of food security: No doubt of when my next/future meals are No hope of gaining extra food No disappointment and reduced anxiety. I do love cooking and going out to eat, but I need staff to be proactive and stick to my plans and scripts consistently. I am looking for companionship from my staff, where they maintain professional boundaries but also show that they enjoy spending time with me and value me for the wonderful person I am. To be part of their team, they are looking for the following qualities from a team member: Trustworthy – it is really important to me that I can build strong relationships with those around me and that I am able to feel happy, valued and cared for. Kind Outgoing, bubbly and smiley Someone who cares for me and wants me to be happy; respects me for who I am and everything about me Structure and reliability – I need structure to allow me to feel safe and supported. This also means I need staff that will consistently follow my care plans, PBS plan and Risk Assessments, without deviating from them. A good listener who is understanding and empathetic – I need someone to listen to my worries and views Funny, good sense of humour Proactive and creative – I would love for someone to help me find new activities to fill my time Eager to learn, open-mindedness and a problem-solver – working with me might bring new challenges or require creative solutions Encouraging and enthusiastic – sometimes when I am not feeling great, I will need staff to encourage me to do activities. Good communication skills – it is important that you are able to effectively communicate with me and also my family. I need staff that will explain the context of a situation and help my understand why certain situations occur. Someone who is willing to join in with my interests Preferably I would like staff that have experience supporting Autistic individuals, individuals with Prader-Willi Syndrome, and individuals that are confident managing behaviours of concern, in a supportive, and not punitive manner.
