North Berwick High School is a secondary school in the beautiful coastal town of North Berwick, which received an excellent HMIE inspection report in June 2020. The current school roll is 1045. Expansion work to create more classrooms and improved facilities has recently been completed. Strong links have been developed with the local community and a broad range of extra curricular activities are on offer. The Business and Computing faculty is made up of a Principal Teacher and 4 teachers. The successful candidate will be expected to teach BGE classes as well as National 5 and Higher classes in Administration, Business Management and Economics. The foundation apprenticeship in Accountancy is also offered by the faculty. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to join a great team and be part of a thriving school community.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and aspirational teacher of Business Education to join a thriving faculty here at NBHS
1. This is a temporary post on a secondment basis until 13 February 2026
2. This secondment has a reduced teaching commitment to enable the postholder to assume a key role in whole school leadership of Digital Literacy – you will teach BGE S1 and S2 Business and Computing, plus certificated courses in Business Education in the Senior Phase, up to 16 periods a week
3. It is an exciting opportunity for experienced teachers interested in middle leadership pathways
4. You will work closely with the Head of Faculty to develop a Digital Literacy Skills programme for S1 and S2, and lead enterprise programmes such as Future Asset
5. You will support the school’s Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) approach
6. You will support and/or lead the NBHS Digital Learning Strategy group, lending your expertise and ideas to the team tasked with moving this strategy forward.
Job Details
Teaching relevant subject through S1-S6.
Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority the duties of teachers, promoted and unpromoted, are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct having reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to the following categories-
Teaching assigned classes together with associated preparation and correction
Developing the school curriculum
Assessing, recording and reporting on the work of pupils
Preparing pupils for examinations and assisting with their administration
Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education
Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils
Working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals
Undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development
Participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review
Contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school
