Consultant in DermatologyPart time post - PA's
The Dermatology service has evolved to provide a full range of secondary care services at Tameside Hospital plus nurse-led primary care clinics. The two consultant dermatologists all run adult and Paediatric clinics and have minor operation lists. Paediatric clinics run in children's outpatients, in a purpose-built modern unit and we have excellent working relationships with Paediatric colleagues including Paediatric phlebotomy on site.
Dermatology surgery takes place in a dedicated fully equipped and staffed minor operation room. All current consultants perform ward referrals as required.
This multi-disciplinary team consultants of consultants, senior nursing roles and cancer nurse specialists, all with dedicated and well-established clinics.
The trust has a well-established Local Skin MDT which is led by the dermatology department with active involvement of the maxillofacial team. The consultants run a monthly complex case clinical meeting outpatient session which allows discussion of more difficult cases.
There is a monthly departmental meeting where business includes service development, clinical governance and audit and to which the appointee will be expected to contribute.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in the day to day running of the dermatology service and will also have every opportunity to participate in the management of the dermatology service.
This will involve the post holder in:-
1. Provision of out-patient services for dermatology patients as per agreed job plan
2. Further develop existing clinical protocols and pathways to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment minimising hospital attendance where appropriate
3. Provision of a consultant-led inpatient referral service, providing advice for patients within general medical services in conjunction with the existing post holders, working with the junior medical staff to ensure optimum effective management of patients
4. Take part in professional supervision and development of all the junior and middle grade doctors within the team including appraisal and personal development planning with his/her team
5. Demonstrate commitment to, and participation in, clinical governance, risk management, clinical audit, appraisal and annual job planning process
6. Promote effective communication within the department and with the wider hospital by regular liaison with specialist medical and service departments within the hospital
7. The post holder will provide additional clinical administrative, supervisory, educational and training support for the day today functioning of the department. Active participation in the future development of the department and the hospital is essential.
