The role
As a Senior Supportability Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will join a national team of around engineers and designers within the Marine Sector of Babcock. We are a leading design and through life support consultancy providing naval architecture, marine system engineering, electrical engineering, design modelling, supportability and project support services to the marine and defence markets.
1. Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for managing engineering aspects of the support solution for equipment’s and systems contracted to Marine systems in the Support Value Stream, in order to deliver improvements to the services offered to the Royal Navy to the benefit of Babcock and the MoD customer.
2. Investigating and resolving technical queries from a variety of sources, and raising and answering S forms through the Maritime Collaborative Working Environment via the Surface Ship Definition Database (SSDD) and Submarine definition Database (SDD) against scope of the contracts supported.
3. Developing and implementing design and supporting improvements, such as Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) actions, to identify cost/lead-time/availability improvements for the Marine Systems contracts.
4. Resolving obsolescence issues identified by the Obsolescence Manager, applying the most appropriate resolution to gain the maximum benefit to the project.
5. Performing Unit Maintenance Management System (UMMS) Monitoring and suggesting changes to improve the reliability of assets.
6. Assisting in maintaining a technical document library. This includes reviewing and updating Books of Reference (BRs) and Illustrated Parts Catalogues (IPCs).
7. Codifying non-patternised items to allow their supply to the Royal Navy.
8. Conduct visits to OEMs and liaise on board with ships staff as required to maintain currency of issues.
9. Define and update repair/new-buy Statement of requirements (SoRs).
10. Provide Task Approval Form (TAF) support to the Project Managers as necessary.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Senior Supportability Engineer
11. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
12. Be well versed with design techniques.
13. Have an understanding of contract delivery.
14. Have an understanding of Procurement processes.
15. A good understanding of asset management.
16. Ability to produce concise reports and business cases.
17. A good understanding of configuration management.
Qualifications for the Senior Supportability Engineer
The candidate will have a relevant engineering qualification such as degree/equivalent, or equivalent experience will be considered and advantageous. The candidate will ideally have IEng status or working towards professional registration.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
