Brief Description
This is an opportunity to shape the future direction of the Region for social value and sustainability governance. We are seeking for two roles looking at specific areas of the business. Firstly we need to create a social value strategy for the Region and then oversee its implementation. Working with a diverse range of stakeholders across the business you will set out our strategy for the next 5 years, identify best practice from across different industries, build the business case for this area and support the Route teams to implement your plans.
About the role (External)
Key Accountabilities
1. Deliver expert technical advice on environmental management and sustainability requirements to stakeholders across the Routes/Region/Programmes.
2. Implement the environment and sustainability aspects of the Regions sustainability strategy and plans.
3. Work with Route teams to determine practical measures to improve environmental performance on projects.
4. Manage and deliver an appropriate governance framework for environmental performance.
5. Manage the Environment team within a Region/Programme.
6. Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
7. Manage the implementation of the Environment Management System (EMS).
8. Manage the delivery of environment and sustainability competence framework.
9. Develop internal and external environment and sustainability communications.
10. Build the desired environment and sustainability culture throughout the business unit.
Essential
1. Practitioner member of IEMA or equivalent professional institute.
2. Degree level qualification in environment/sustainability or relevant subject.
3. Demonstrable significant experience managing topics such as biodiversity or governance.
4. In-depth understanding of environment/sustainability legislation.
5. Experience in implementing successful environmental improvements.
6. Experience of working with management systems.
7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable
1. Masters level qualification in relevant subject.
2. Full member of IEMA or equivalent.
3. Experience of managing relationships with Regulators.
4. Rail industry experience.
5. Auditing competency.
