Job summary
Chelmer Primary Care Network has a fantastic opportunity for a physician associate (PA) to join our team on a part time basis for 10 hours a week. This is a great opportunity to build on your experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team, as well as developing positive new working relationships across organisational & professional boundaries.
Main duties of the job
1. Providing direct clinical care for patients, including clinical assessments, diagnoses & treatment, under the supervision of a GP.
2. Interviewing patients, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, analysing, diagnosing & explaining medical problems.
3. Working with the wider clinical team, to deliver services to meet the needs of the patients, which may include home visits.
4. Consulting & referring patients to physicians, medical specialists & other health professionals.
5. Recommending & explaining appropriate diagnostic tests or treatments.
6. Requesting & interpreting results of laboratory investigations.
7. Performing specialised diagnostic physical exams & treatment procedures.
8. Instructing & educating patients in preventative healthcare.
9. Conducting telephone consultations, which may involve discussing the result, & implications, of laboratory investigations with patients.
10. Dealing appropriately with routine & emergency complaints.
11. Fully documenting all aspects of patient care.

Our PCN covers 4 practices across Mid Essex: Chelmer Village Surgery, North Chelmsford Healthcare Centre, Rivermead Gate Medical Centre and Sutherland Lodge.

Qualifications
Essential
12. A postgraduate degree in Physician Associate Studies from an accredited PA programme.
13. Membership of the Faculty of Physician Associates at the RCP, which includes UK Physician Associate Registration (the PA Managed Voluntary Register).
14. Current and valid certification or re-certification by the UK Physician Associate National Examination.
Experience
Essential
15. Experience including preventative medicine and chronic disease management.
16. Flexible and adaptable approach to a varied and high-volume workload, with the ability to multi-task and to work under pressure.
17. Consistently compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
18. Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, nurses, other staff and agencies.
19. Commitment to continuing professional development.
