Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Relevant BSc Degree in Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent) acceptable for registration with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
2. State registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.
3. Evidence of CPD
4. IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice Histological Dissection (Band 7) or Completed NHS STP program in Histopathology
Desirable criteria
1. Training for Trainers Qualification
2. Management qualification or relevant experience
3. Fellowship of IBMS
4. Working toward the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection (Band 7 Annex 21)
5. Experience in Breast or CT Dissection
Knowledge
Essential criteria
1. Knowledge and experience of Quality Management Systems in Pathology.
2. Proven Leadership and supervisory experience
3. Extensive post-registration experience in Histopathology.
4. A sound understanding of basic physiology, pathology and scientific principles relevant to Histopathology
5. Maintain professional knowledge including local and national initiatives
Desirable criteria
1. A thorough understanding of H&S legislation
2. A wide knowledge of current developments in the NHS
3. Evidence of training and supervising staff in tissue dissection
Training and Experience
Essential criteria
1. Experience of operating, troubleshooting and maintaining complex laboratory equipment
2. Experience in service improvement within pathology.
3. Experience of training BMS and MLA staff.
4. Experience in working towards ISO 15189 standards.
Desirable criteria
1. Experience of using QPulse
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
1. Ability to work unsupervised
2. Ability to prioritise workload to meet clinical demands
3. Ability to communicate with a range of staff and audiences
4. Proven to support others to develop their skills
