The Canada, Americas and Pacific Area (CAPA) of the CWGC covers all of Canada, United States, the Caribbean, Central America, South America and the Falkland Islands (31 countries) in the CanAm Region and another 14 countries in the Pacific Region including China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Fiji, Thailand, Singapore, and Myanmar. We are responsible for caring and maintaining 72,000 war graves, over 66,000 commemorations, 89 CWGC owned cemeteries and other sites with memorials, stones of remembrance and crosses of sacrifice.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Regional Horticulture Coordinator, who would be responsible for the upkeep of horticulture sites throughout CAPA by preparing and completing the horticulture plans, inspection plans, identifying maintenance and repair requirements, and overseeing the CWGC-compliant documentation needed to ensure remedial and maintenance work can be successfully completed.
So that you know what to expect on any given day, you’ll be doing one or a variety of these tasks:
General
* Oversees the inspection and maintenance of horticulture sites throughout CAPA
* Ensures the upkeep of horticulture across CAPA by preparing and completion the horticulture plans, inspection plans, identifying maintenance and repair requirements, and overseeing the CWGC-compliant documentation needed to ensure remedial and maintenance work can be completed
* Prepare the annual Horticulture Plan, the CAPA Five (5) Year Horticultural Plan, and in developing the related horticulture budgets
* Identifies and coordinates all necessary horticulture work that may arise outside of the specifications of standing horticulture contracts
* Develops and implements horticulture contracts and agreements to actively monitor contractor performance against contract terms
* Maintain accurate and updated records of cemetery horticulture assets across CAPA
* Acts as the CAPA point of contact for all horticulture issues and inquiries
* Guides and mentors CAPA staff and horticulture contractors to ensure standards are met and upheld
* Supports and participates in CWGC-wide Horticulture initiatives and provides a CAPA perspective as needed
* Plans and conducts cyclical survey tours across CAPA, including inspection of CAPA assets (markers, memorials, structures) beyond horticultural components
* Ensures all assigned works are completed effectively and efficiently within defined budgets
* Prepares contract documents, including detailed work specifications in accordance with Commission policies and procedures, monitors progress, and reviews deliverables for payment
* Identify horticultural training needs for staff and highlight skill gaps
* Ensures highest standards of Health and Safety are met, implements Health and Safety policies and effectively manages risk of safe working practices on behalf of the CWGC and CAPA
