Location: Derby (the role involves traveling to other facilities)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Image Resource Engineer to join the Image Resource department at Rolls-Royce, located in Derby. The role is based in Derby, however, you will be required to undertake regular work at other facilities across the UK and globally. Initially, you should expect to spend approximately 50% of your time at other facilities. The travel will be mostly to a site in Somerset - our team members normally travel Sunday evening or Monday morning depending on commitments outside of work and then go back on Friday. Other sites are Bristol and Farnborough in the UK and a R-R site in Germany - these are less frequent though, currently a couple of times a year.
The Image Resource department comprises a small team of technical imaging and creative experts that provide inspired and innovative solutions to any imaging requirement within Rolls-Royce plc.
The technical aspect of the role typically includes the setup, capture, and analysis of high-speed video camera footage of various types of testing, from component-level up to full engine tests. The creative aspects include the production of promotional videos, photography, and imagery that can often be seen within the global media, social media platforms, and across the company.
What you will be doing:
The Image Resource Engineer will have expertise/experience in High-Speed Analytical image capture of thousands of high-resolution images for slow-motion analysis. The key focus typically incorporates: Ballistic testing, Materials Testing, Fluid Dynamics, Combustion Studies, Aerospace, R&D, object measurement, detection, tracking, and classification. This interesting role involves:
1. Working as part of a team, as the technical specialist advising on the optimum solution to satisfy the customers' data requirements, including advising on the design and build of bespoke camera and lighting rigs.
2. Managing projects from requirement capture through to delivery of the measurement data.
3. On-site support which involves practical elements for example the rigging/installation of and operating of our cameras and control systems.
4. Understanding and undertaking any image calibration.
5. Providing data to customers via 3D laser scanning and DIC (Digital Imaging Correlation).
Training will be given for the specific cameras, equipment, and software operated within the department.

1. A higher qualification or a degree in Imaging, Photography, Digital Media, or an equivalent relative subject or accreditation from a professional institution.
2. Areas of specialism considered would be Thermal imaging techniques and analysis, Digital Image Correlation (DIC), Faro 3D scanning, and an understanding of Digital Photography.
3. Ability to work in small teams as well as individually.
4. Demonstrate excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
5. Track record with established experience and be prepared to learn other imaging techniques as required.
