Health Care Assistant (CVD Workplace Health Checks)
This new service is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of health checks in workplaces across Cumbria.
The team will engage with employers throughout Cumbria to offer people a physical check to support early detection of preventable diseases and support lifestyle changes to improve health outcomes.
This service will contribute to a healthier Cumbria with a proactive and preventative approach to health and wellbeing in the County. The tests will identify cholesterol levels, blood pressure, BMI, and general wellbeing markers.
37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 17:00. For the right candidate, we may be able to be flexible.
This position is 6 months fixed-term.

Main Duties of the Job
This list of duties and responsibilities represents the broad range of tasks which may be required to be undertaken either routinely or periodically. This list is not exhaustive and the role may include additional duties which are not listed here.
1. Assist in providing high-quality patient care.
2. Carry out basic patient observations, blood sugar, ECG recording, and urinalysis as requested by the GP practice.
3. Carry out venepuncture as requested by the GP practice.
4. Carry out simple dressings as agreed.
5. Contribute to housekeeping and other duties as required, e.g., general tidiness, replenishment of stock, and ensure clinical equipment is clean, in good working order, and stored correctly.
6. Act as chaperone and support patients during examinations.
7. Undertake training to acquire the skills appropriate for development in the post.
8. Carry out other tasks in line with the HCA level of competency as requested by the GP practice and/or Cumbria Health clinicians and management team.
Managing Patient Care/Clinical Responsibilities
1. Assist in the safe handling and moving of patients, adhering to H&S guidelines and protocols at all times.
2. Respond to the needs of the patients with patience and empathy, promoting privacy and dignity.
3. Review equipment, identify faults, and feedback to the line manager.
4. Report all accidents, incidents, and complaints to the line manager or according to policy as appropriate (e.g., Adverse Incidents).
5. Report any issues that may put health, safety, and security at risk following the risk assessment process.
6. Ensure that a safe environment is created and maintained for all patients, visitors, and work colleagues.
7. Clean and decontaminate consultation rooms between patients and undertake general housekeeping.
Communication
1. Actively maintain the patient consultation record so that it is complete and accurate in line with legal requirements.
Education and Training Responsibilities
1. Undertake mandatory training in line with Cumbria Health policy.
2. Participate in induction and training.
3. Take responsibility for personal and professional development.
Organisational/Administrative Responsibilities
1. Complete appropriate forms and send specimens to the laboratory as required.
2. Undertake any general clerical duties as required.
3. Adhere to the Cumbria Health policies and procedures and relevant legislation including the requirements of any professional bodies.
4. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and comply with the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulation.
5. Undertake any other activities deemed appropriate and necessary by the organisation.
6. Participate in audit, research, and evaluation of service.

Skills and Aptitudes
* Good communication and interpersonal skills, able to communicate clearly and effectively.
* Ability to work as a member of a team as well as on own initiative.
* Ability to follow clear instructions and feedback to senior staff.
* Ability to demonstrate the compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care.
* Willingness to undertake training.
* Ability to carry out venepuncture, ECG recording, urinalysis, and basic patient health checks/observations.
* Ability to carry out basic dressings and more advanced HCA tasks.
Other Requirements
* Work in a customer-focused/caring environment.
* Previous experience in a care environment or General Practice experience.
* NHS Experience.
Qualifications
* Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
* NVQ level 2 in care.
* NVQ level 3 in care.
* Care Certificate or equivalent.
* ECDL or equivalent.
Knowledge
* Ability to maintain and improve knowledge, skills, and competence to ensure high standards of patient care.
* Ability to meet basic care needs of patients.
* Understanding of confidentiality.
