We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Senior Genomics Technician to work within the Genomics Research Platform and Single Cell Laboratory, based within the R&D Department at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. Our lab uses state-of-the-art genomics technologies to enable fast tracking of research into clinics. The role calls for someone with a keen interest in genomics, preferably with some experience in NGS or single cell technologies or histology techniques to support our service provision to facilitate clinical and academic research with the ultimate aim of improving patient outcomes.
Main duties of the job
As Senior Genomics Technician, you will undertake assigned scientific projects using a wide range of genomics workflows. These may include single cell, bulk cells, and spatial transcriptomics experiments. You would be expected to contribute to the optimization of workflows for R&D projects and emerging cutting-edge technologies. You will contribute to the various support and training tasks as part of a team to ensure outputs are delivered timely and effectively. You will hold at least a BSc (or equivalent) in Biology/Life Sciences or relevant discipline plus experience gained through working in a research/service lab. Knowledge, skills, and experience in genomics techniques is essential.
Key responsibilities:
* Conduct experiments for assigned projects using existing SOPs with attention to detail
* Conduct experiments for single cell transcriptomics and spatial transcriptomics using workflows established in the lab
* Process samples for bulk DNA and RNA sequencing using workflows established in the lab
* Ensure project records are accurate, up-to-date, and complete
* Operation and day-to-day maintenance of equipment within the lab
* Conduct R&D projects to optimize and validate new workflows and technologies
* Liaise with the bioinformatician to ensure timely delivery of data and completion of projects
* Work with researchers and team members to understand work requirements and priorities and be responsive to changing priorities

The Genomics Research Platform operates as a service provision lab and as an R&D lab. Job responsibilities
The Genomics Research Platform at Guys & St. Thomas Trust (GSTT) and Kings College London (KCL) is offering a permanent position for a Senior Genomics Technician to conduct day-to-day services and R&D projects. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a keen interest in genomics and looking to develop their career in this rapidly developing field. The candidate will work as part of a service team using a range of molecular biology techniques for processing samples using the latest genomics platforms and technologies.
The role calls for a detail-oriented, highly motivated, and fast-learning individual with 3+ years of experience in genomics/molecular biology workflows. Eligible candidates will have a BSc/PhD in Biomedical Science or equivalent with proven experience in molecular biology workflows. Past experience in a research/service provision lab and experience in manual or automated library preparation for NGS is essential, while experience in using single cell-related platforms will be desirable. An ability to receive training, be closely supervised during the training period, follow SOPs in a word or worksheet format with attention to detail, and to complete projects within given timelines and budget is essential. You must be comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment, have excellent communication and customer service skills, and be comfortable working independently.
Key responsibilities include:
* Provide genomics services to platform users as required, including single cell transcriptomics profiling, spatial transcriptomics profiling, bulk cell DNA, and RNA sequencing
* Maintain detailed records of the laboratory work and service operations for assigned projects undertaken by the post-holder
* Participate in group meetings, presentations, and discussions of experimental data
* Work synergistically with other team members and key stakeholders within GSTT and KCL to ensure smooth operation and streamlined genomics service provision
* Contribute to the development of new SOPs and protocols
Person Specification
Qualifications/Education
* Degree level education in relevant discipline (e.g. Biology, Life Sciences)
* Masters in relevant discipline (e.g. Biology, Life Sciences)
Experience
* Experience in library preparation for NGS
* Experience in wet-lab molecular workflows (e.g. DNA/RNA extractions, qPCR, sample QC)
* Experience in operating Illumina sequencing platforms
* Experience in service provision lab
* Experience in single cell NGS workflows
* Experience in spatial transcriptomics workflows
* Experience in long read sequencing technologies (e.g. Nanopore or PacBio)
Skills
* Be able to follow standard operating procedures
* Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
