About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle.
About the role
You will be an experienced and proactive Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager supporting the Transport unit in achieving its desired outcomes. You will monitor, advise and influence the continual improvement of health, safety and wellbeing across the unit.
The key responsibilities are:
1. To promote a culture of continuous improvement and improve the Unit’s health, safety and wellbeing performance.
2. Promote the use of the Mott MacDonald Business Management System and engage senior management in the development, review and implementation of safety plans.
3. Report to the Unit General Manager on health and safety performance, including analysis of trends and issues arising from audits and dissemination of lessons learned.
4. Deliver and/or arrange health and safety training for our people.
5. Support in closing out non-conformities and escalating issues where necessary.
6. Contribute to, or undertake internal incident investigations as required.
7. Provide health and safety support and advice to senior management and staff.
8. Keep abreast of developments in relevant legislation and practice and act upon any changes accordingly.
9. Represent the Unit externally, where required, including liaising with enforcement authorities and other bodies as necessary.
10. Work with the Unit HR team to ensure compliance with legislation in the Health, Safety and Wellbeing space.
11. Work in collaboration with the Regional wellbeing manager and HR community to promote wellbeing within the Unit.
12. Promote a culture that recognises the value of positive interventions, leading to a safe and health working environment.
Duties include:
1. Auditing offices and projects within the Unit, both in the UK and overseas.
2. Develop initiatives and oversee their implementation to raise awareness of health and safety and wellbeing.
3. Produce monthly reports on health and safety performance.
4. Analyse health and safety data to spot trends and suggest corrective action plans.
5. Support and train Project Safety Advisers and people in other key safety roles.
6. Support and input into monthly safety meetings ensuring divisions contribute and undertake actions as required.
7. Engage with the management of the Transport divisions to support them in promoting health and safety.
8. Support senior management with approvals and governance, including international travel.
9. Develop the annual Transport health and safety plan ensuring that the objectives are SMART.
10. Engage with our people at all levels to show them how to raise positive interventions at work, outside of work and in engineering design.
Essential
1. Ideally hold, or be working towards a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and Cert IOSH but minimum of TechIOSH working towards Cert IOSH.
2. Have a solid understanding of health and safety legislation and its application in challenging contexts.
3. Develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with managers, employees and key stakeholders.
4. Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written).
5. Working knowledge of health and safety management systems and the Construction Design and Management Regulations.
6. Be proactive with good organisational capability and effective time management skills.
Desirable
1. Previous experience working in an engineering consultancy environment and the transport sector.
2. Membership of an engineering related institute.
3. Formal Lead auditor / auditor qualification and experience of auditing.
