Expression Of Interest: FANTASTIC HORTICULTURAL RESEARCHER OPPORTUNITY RHS CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW
BBC Studios is looking for a Horticultural Researcher to join the busy RHS Chelsea Flower Show team in Bristol. Working on the world’s most famous flower show, you will help deliver coverage of the event to BBC1 and BBC2 prime and to BBC daytime. The ideal candidate for this exciting opportunity will have a passion for plants and garden design and a desire to showcase all that this prestigious event has to offer to a wide audience. Experience of horticultural events would be desirable.
Working closely with the Series Editor, Gallery Producers and Horticultural Assistant Producers, you will provide specialist horticultural support to the team, creating over 12 hours of BBC coverage of this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May. The researcher will play a key role in the horticultural team, researching and developing content that will engage and entertain a variety of audiences across the BBC. You will also assist in the delivery of VTs filmed prior to the event and join the team on location during the event, providing horticultural support to the editorial team and Presenters.
The role requires the ability to undertake specialist research, to follow a brief and to convey complex information in a simple and engaging manner. You will be expected to contribute ideas for items, liaise with presenters, contributors and organisations, and to source props for filming. The ideal candidate must have a relevant horticultural qualification and a good understanding of the principles of garden design.
The candidate will also possess excellent organisational skills and have experience working at events. It will be necessary to build strong working relationships, both within the team and with external partners, so the candidate must be a good team player and a great communicator. The candidate must be able to travel, overnight and work on location across the UK. They will also be required to be on location for the duration of the Chelsea event week in May.
The role is Bristol based, but flexible working is an option subject to the BBC’s policies and guidelines.
