The salary for this role is £67,023 (inclusive of a Market Premium Payment (MPP). Onsite working is expected for 4 days each week.
Job Description
This role is based at the following site; Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.
The Role
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the future of Fusion? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As Diagnostic and Fusion Engineering (DFE) Group Lead, you will play a pivotal role in being responsible for all aspects of staff management, development and delivery of Project Engineers working on cutting edge Fusion Diagnostics.
The group leads work on a variety of electro-mechanical diagnostics focused on analysing plasma for both UK and international Fusion machines. The role includes agreeing personal development plans, setting of objectives and providing job performance feedback. You will be responsible for ensuring that the group delivers to the required quality standards and to deadlines. Youll implement techniques, methods and processes to improve quality and delivery. Youll review and approve technical documentation including drawings, specifications and contracts.
Youll provide clear and positive leadership for the group by encouraging and developing effective team working within the group, fostering a positive can-do attitude and encouraging the free flow and sharing of knowledge within teams to promote good succession planning. Youll support the technical development of staff, through mentoring, coaching and direct teaching.
In addition, youll ensure a consistent and proportional approach to project management and engineering within the group and wider organisation on projects conducted across the UKAEA. Youll support the Plasma Sensors and Control Unit in department planning, and agree/advise on long-term priorities, and budgets. Working with the directorate business manager, youll create and deliver commercial opportunities related to the DFE groups capabilities and product line.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Project Management - initiating and leading new ideas/concepts, co-ordinating the groups design processes, manufacture, and installation of equipment. Acting as a point of approval for technical solutions / designs. Submit budgets and business cases to deliver projects, and recommend capital expenditure.
- Ensure that the group Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) culture and working practices are in alignment with the UKAEA requirements.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
- Proven leadership experience through a track record of success in team and project management of engineering/technology work.
- Experience of line management of technical teams (scientific, engineering, technology etc).
- Degree or equivalent experience in relevant Engineering field, e.g. mechanical engineering, precision engineering.
- Experience of working with technical documents, manufacturing specifications and contracts.
- Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical people, working and interfacing with projects, internal and external customers.
- Experience of motivating and using resources efficiently, prioritising and delegating with clarity.
- Experience of delivering key engineering/technology milestones within agreed time frame.
