As the UK Medical Director - Pathology, at Unilabs UK, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the medical team to deliver high-quality pathology services.
Key Responsibilities
1. Member of the Country Leadership team (CLT) responsible for key areas below:
2. Reporting pathology cases: Actively involved in your specialty or expertise.
3. Designing and owning the UK medical strategy: alongside the Medical Director and General Manager, UK.
4. Medical Management: overseeing all medical operations, quality assurance and audit support, ensuring adherence to quality reporting standards, best practice implementation, and managing clinical troubleshooting on all client and organisational queries.
5. Pathologist recruitment: management and retention, networking, knowledge development, standardisation of clinical reporting and advancing digital pathology.
6. Brand Ambassador: representing UNILABS in medical conferences and events, contributing to commercial activities to drive business growth.
Areas of Work
Leadership & Administration
1. Overall responsible for Medical Pathology administration in Unilabs UK.
2. Leading the Unilabs Histopathology Service via reporting of cases and Medical management of pathologists, cytologists and other medical functions.
3. Building a coherent and strong medical team in Unilabs UK and driving overall performance of the team.
4. Alongside HR, maintaining all necessary compliance and competency paperwork for pathologists.
5. Supporting all pathologists with their annual appraisal as necessary.
Member of Country Leadership Team (CLT)
1. Support the Management in defining strategy and operational decisions for Unilabs UK from a medical pathology perspective.
2. Bringing requests and demands of the scientific teams of Unilabs to discussion and decision.
Medical Governance/Advice
1. Contribution of medical aspects and scientific knowledge to all UK projects, tenders and customer related issues.
2. Helping customers and employees perceive Unilabs as a cutting-edge diagnostic lab group.
3. Medical consultancy of the Marketing Team and sales representatives.
4. Playing a role in approval of the scientific content of all Unilabs customer-related publications.
5. Show leadership in medical/scientific issues or discussions between Unilabs and customers.
Quality, Audit, Adverse Events
1. Work with QA head of UK, legal dept and global colleagues on any topic related to medical and clinical quality.
2. Understand and implement all policies related to handling of medical incidents and adverse events.
3. Participate and advise on risk assessment to understand patient harm.
4. Work with CLT and global to advise on any UK cases on medico-legal issues.
5. Build a culture of speaking up regarding near misses and deemed incidents.
Innovation/Scientific Content/Publications
1. Helping Unilabs to maintain a competitive edge by identification, advice and advocacy of new products.
2. Advising on ensuring ideas of new products are technically and commercially viable.
3. Advocacy or direct authorship for scientific information, publications and scientific content.
4. Maintaining personal and organisational Continuous Professional Education.
Direct Reporting Line into
1. Unilabs Global/Cluster/UK Medical Director responsible for UK.
2. Daily working partnership with Medical Director and Country Manager, UK.
Requirements
1. Qualified Medical Doctor on Specialist GMC register, with license to practice and report Pathology/Cytology cases in UK.
2. Significant experience in pathology practice, with a track record of leadership and management.
3. Knowledge of the UK healthcare system, including NHS and private sectors.
4. Strong understanding of medical best practices and quality assurance standards.
5. Leadership experience in NHS or private settings, ideally in a professional diagnostics laboratory environment.
6. Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex medical issues.
7. People Management experience with excellent communication skills.
8. Ethical, professional and team working attitude with ability to lead or influence key stakeholders.
9. Ability and willingness to travel within UK to achieve organisational goals.
10. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
