Job summary
This role is part of the Training and Development Department responsible for delivering Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) to all staff working within Mental Health and Learning Disability settings.
This is a physically challenging but exciting role working with a range of internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate should be willing to undertake 2 weeks training provided either locally or in West London along with a 3-day yearly refresher.
We have a purpose-built training venue at Moorgreen Hospital Southampton, although there is an expectation to provide advice, support, and guidance as part of the team in clinical practice across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Experience of working in a Child, Adult, Forensic, Older persons Mental Health, or Learning Disabilities care environment for a minimum of 2 years is essential for this role.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide support directly within the Clinical Training Team, the wider Training and Development Department, and in clinical settings.
As a trainer, you will be involved in designing, delivering, and evaluating the PMVA course to ensure it meets the requirements of the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training standards and supports the trust in their approach to reducing restrictive practices.
You will be responsible for delivering training and ensuring staff are confident and competent in their knowledge and skills, using assessment methods including scenarios.

Qualifications
Essential
* Level 2 or 3 in health and Care (or a willingness to work towards this)
* Experience of teaching other staff or service users - this can be formal or informal teaching.
* Willingness to complete a teaching qualification such as Award in Education and Training.
* Willingness to work towards PMVA instructor status.
Desirable
* Teaching qualification i.e. PTLLS/AET
* PMVA Instructor status
* Level 1 PMVA Instructor status (or above)
Experience
Essential
* Experience of working in a mental health or Learning Disabilities care environment.
* An awareness of current national guidance in relation to challenging behaviour/violence and aggression and the legal requirements of this, including the RRN Standards, NICE guidelines, and the Mental Health Act & Use of Force Act.
* Sound clinical knowledge underpinned by evidence of theoretical understanding.
* Must be able to meet the physical demands of this training role.
* Evidence of ongoing personal or professional development.
Desirable
* Evidence of attendance of violence reduction skills training (i.e., C&R, PMVA, PRISS, sSs, or similar)
* Experience and evidence of delivering a range of learning interventions, including delivery to large groups.
* Ability to plan and implement training sessions.
Additional Criteria
Essential
* Car driver and owner along with a willingness to travel potentially across the border of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare to deliver training / attend meetings.
