In fact, we already hold the Guinness World Record for the first aircraft powered in flight on 100% synthetic fuel At our Plant Zero 0.1 in Bicester Heritage we are producing fuel 24/7 and with our teams of Operations, Performance Engineers. Chemists, Control Systems and Designers we are all working together to refine the process and develop the applications. We are now looking for additional Technicians to join our Operations team as we grow. Who are you? You are keen to utilise your experience, skills and knowledge to perform activities and experiments that are being conducted for the first time. You enjoy a role where every shift is varied and the tasks can be quite different ranging from manual process operation, wet chemistry, fabrication tasks (Swagelok fittings/installations), or experiment preparation. You relish a team- based culture where every department works well together and shares the same ultimate goal. You enjoy doing manual activities and are equally comfortable with administration such as updating Excel sheets, loading sequences on to the chemical analysis equipment. You are proactive and able to resolve problems and take corrective action. You like a balance of performing experiments and writing up the experiments. You enjoy being in a company with a big vision where we frequently host visitors from major global organisations interested in our technology, run marketing events, deliver highly ambitious projects where everyone who works at Zero contributes in some way. You are comfortable with shift work – we operate 24/7 with a 4 on 4 off 12 hour shift pattern that rotates between days and nights. You are educated to degree level or Apprentice at ONC/HNCG&G/NVQ level 3 in chemistry, or chemical, mechanical or automotive engineering. You have some commercial R&D laboratory experience (ideally in oil and gas or petrochemicals industries but not essential). If you join Zero you join one big team As one of our current technicians said “The company works well between departments and the Technicians are informed of the company's progress in current projects and about upcoming projects, so it feels rewarding as you can see the impact of the work” Typical Tasks Include Operating the R&D rigs which includes implementing process requests, ensuring that the actual conditions meet the setpoints, draining the pots to collect and separate fuel and water, setting up test sequences and sample analysis. Performing chemical reactions. Loading/unloading reactor tubes which involves monitoring and recording data on specific parameters and cleaning the relevant equipment (spatulas etc.). Changing over gas cylinders. Informing the relevant departments of any issues experienced on shift. Assisting in modifications to the rigs/equipment on site. Looking after the workplace. Wearing the relevant PPE at all times when performing the activities above. Operations Technician Detailed Job Description Reporting to Operations Team Leader Location Bicester Heritage, Oxfordshire Main Purpose Ensuring the safe and continuous running of equipment used for the test and development of synthetic fuels. Accountabilities And Responsibilities Monitor and record the continuous running of research and development equipment. Identify and investigate inconsistencies on the test rigs and take actions where needed to resolve problems. Follow and develop test and development equipment operating procedures. Compliance to agreed operations and maintenance procedures, policies and safe working practices for your areas of responsibility. Have an understanding of P&ID drawings. Complete a clear and concise shift change handover report. Actively participate in continuous improvement processes. Perform repair and maintenance tasks on process equipment used to develop synthetic fuels. Maintain a clean and tidy workplace and ensure the facility is a showcase standard ready for guest and VIPs visits at any time. Special challenges The role requires close attention to detail, looking a data trends of process plant and other test laboratory equipment. The candidate must work proactively to complete tasks in a timely manner. The ability to use (or be trained to use) fuel analysis equipment would be an advantage.
