Job summary
The post holder will provide confidential administrative support to the Repeat Prescription Hub.
They will provide a telephone service and reception duty at all required times, ensuring that enquiries are dealt with efficiently in a polite and professional manner. The post holder will provide a prescription ordering service for patients.
They will be expected to work independently, managing their own workload within defined policies and procedures, with someone available for reference.
This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months to meet the needs of the service. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for managing calls to the Repeat Script Ordering Service this will include the responsibility for determining the repeat prescription requirement for individual patients. The post holder will be responsible for accessing patients GP records and selecting the correct medication, dose and quantity, printing and processing prescriptions ensuring they are sent to GP practices for signing whilst ensuring confidentiality and data protection are maintained. Acting as the front line contact for patients in a high demand environment, and managing requests for repeat medication which may include complex treatment regimes, the post holder will be required to use highly developed critical thinking and analytical skills to determine the appropriateness of the requests being received, before acting on the requests and producing the prescription.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Service Delivery
To carry out telephone and reception duties in a polite and courteous manner having an awareness of customer care needs.
To receive telephone prescription request from patients, prepare and make notes using the appropriate GP system. This will include requesting prescription information from the patient to ensure appropriateness of the prescription request. Requests that cannot be processed will be escalated to the Lead Technician for review where necessary.
Print prescriptions using the GP clinical system to a high degree of accuracy and ensure timely delivery to appropriate GP practice for authorisation.
To keep appropriate records of all prescriptions printed and delivered and the means of delivery.
To liaise with, and inform GPs and Pharmacies of changes to prescriptions and ensure patients are kept informed and provided with updated information.
To respond to enquiries from GPs, Patients, care homes, social workers andPharmacies regarding prescriptions.
With the Lead Technician, be responsible for the maintenance and management of the prescription databases ensuring accurate and timely updating of key information that is stored securely and compliant with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Propose and implement ways to encourage patients to take responsibility for their repeat prescription ordering, and to highlight waste issues.
To provide simple health information advice in line with NHS policies and service protocols and approved sources.
To process confidential/sensitive patient information on behalf of the Repeat Prescription Hub team.
