We have an exciting opportunity for a part time Insurance Advisor to join Southampton City Council (SCC) in the Risk & Insurance Team, within the Enabling Services Directorate.

About the team:
SCC’s Risk & Insurance Team is part of the Enabling Services Directorate and aspires to be the ‘best in class’ through creating a cohesive approach to the handling of insurance claims to deliver value for money for Southampton City Council.
The Risk & Insurance Team is a small but specialised team that seeks to deliver an effective and efficient insurance claims handling service for the council and in liaison with external claims handlers and insurers as appropriate and, in addition, to respond to insurance related enquiries in a helpful and pragmatic way.
About the role:
Working closely with the Senior Insurance Advisor, you will provide a day-to-day point of contact for insurance claims against the council received from members of the public and other third parties, as well as dealing with claims that internal service areas may make regarding loss or damage to council property, vehicles, etc.
You will be involved in the handling of a diverse range of insurance claims, working closely with the council’s appointed claims handlers and insurers to ensure that claims are dealt with promptly and efficiently.
You will be involved in maintaining the database in respect of buildings insurance for Leasehold ‘Right to Buy’ Flats / Shared Ownership properties and ensure that insurance related queries are responded to.
You will provide general advice on claims procedures and undertake other insurance related tasks.
About you:
The Risk & Insurance Team is looking for a motivated and experienced individual to join us in the role of Insurance Advisor. This is a key role within the Risk & Insurance Team, and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate relevant experience of dealing with insurance claims and have a good knowledge of insurance principles.
You will have a good knowledge of insurance principles with at least two years of relevant experience, preferably in an insurance claims environment.
You will have an understanding of the principles of insurance.
With training and support, you will be able to use your own initiative in both responding to enquiries and in determining the information required to enable a claim to be investigated.
You will be able to organise and prioritise your own workload within a busy environment and ensure that deadlines are achieved.
You will need good written and oral communication skills and be comfortable and confident in your IT skills.
