In your new role as Project Commercial Manager - Environment & Sustainability, in AECOM's Environment, Water & Energy (EWE) Business Line, you will play a crucial role in enhancing project commercial outcomes and driving commercial best practice and learning. By leveraging your expertise in consultancy, engineering construction contracts, program, and change management, you will support and uplift project managers (PMs) in commercial matters. This includes mitigating risks, minimising lost margin, and fostering commercial best practices to boost project performance and client satisfaction.
Reporting to the Assistant Commercial Director and working under the direction of the Business Unit Operations Director or commercial team, your responsibilities will span across multiple projects.
Each team member has a development plan to provide a clear pathway to personal development and career progression. The team provides technical leadership of project throughout the infrastructure lifecycle from feasibility, preliminary and detailed design stages. Our clients are many and varied from both the private and public sector and include custodians of the UK’s Rail network, numerous local authorities, and major contractors.
Here’s what you’ll do:
* Collaborate: Assisting PMs, Project Directors, and Lead Verifiers in the commercial management of projects to ensure successful delivery.
* Provide Expertise: Applying your knowledge of contract management to enhance project performance, focusing on critical aspects like insurances, programme, delay damages, and key contract dates.
* Ensure Quality: Using contract administration platforms such as CEMAR and Asite to oversee and act on client communications and instructions. Identifying and managing Early Warnings, participating in Risk Reduction meetings, and facilitating Compensation Events and their implementation. Applications for Payment, Forecasts to Complete, and project programs.
* Oversee: Participating in project reviews, commercial discussions with clients and suppliers, and ensuring the execution of action items.
* Mentor: Coaching technical staff to heighten their commercial awareness and expertise.
* Deliver: Working to reduce disallowed costs and efficiently manage expenditures from AECOM and its subcontractors. Contributing to Go/No-Go decisions for new projects or significant changes to existing projects.

* Energy transition projects including green hydrogen / ammonia, offshore / onshore wind, solar farms, battery storage, pumped hydro schemes
* Water engineering, water scarcity
* Carbon advisory – ESG, energy utilisation
* Digital tools
* Environment Impact / Biodiversity Net Gain
* Ground investigation programmes (road; rail; carbon capture hubs)
* International projects: Latin America, Middle East, Asia, India

This role is part of a dynamic commercial team within the Environment & Sustainability (E&S) Business Unit of the EWE Business Line. Our E&S team fosters a culture of trust and collaboration, comprising 700 professionals, including Scientists, Engineers, and Project Managers. We specialize in providing consultancy services across diverse sectors, serving clients in the UK, Europe, and worldwide, with our projects reaching as far as the Middle East and Africa.
The EWE team is at the forefront of AECOM’s strategic purpose and acts as a global centre of excellence – to provide leading consultancy and infrastructure services in the fields of sustainability, social equity, net zero, carbon advisory, renewable energy and water scarcity. As such, you will be involved in negotiating and supporting various projects, where AECOM’s UKI team is a leader.

Here’s what we’re looking for:
As CPM, you will be experienced at directly communicating with clients, subcontractors, and subconsultants to proactively resolve any commercial performance concerns/risks. Additionally, you will be conversant and familiar with contract governance under principally NEC3/NEC4 EEC and PSC frameworks (all main Option types) and preferably JCT and FIDIC suites.
Furthermore, you will support the Project Manager and Project Accountant by addressing commercial and financial risk aspects. You will possess outstanding skills in managing stakeholders and provide guidance on these matters as necessary, including reporting on internal projects to AECOM Operations, Finance, and Risk/Commercial stakeholders, in addition to Directors.
In addition to the above, you will need the following:
* Degree in engineering / quantity surveying (or equivalent qualification).
* Experience in project, commercial and risk management, including client facing roles.
