Job summary We have an opportunity for a Ward Clerk Team Leader within Integrated Geriatric and Stroke Medicine department. Our wards are based at The Northern General Hospital and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The successful candidate will be based across both sites. This is a Full Time position, and you will be required predominantly to work Monday to Friday with shifts between the hours of 7am and 6pm. The Ward Clerk Team Leader is an integral part of the IGSM ward team, they will supervise the ward clerk team ensuring the wards are appropriately staffed and that the team are supported to undertake a range of administrative duties to support the running of the ward, under the daily direction of the Nurse in Charge with overall line management from the IGSM Service Co-Ordinator. You will work closely with a wide discipline of staff. The role is varied and requires a flexible approach. Ward based / knowledge is desirable with a range of administrative procedures including case note tracking. Main duties of the job To provide day to day leadership to the IGSM band 2 Ward Clerk team. To be the first point of contact for Ward Clerks seeking guidance or support with daily tasks. Implement staff rotas to meet the needs of the service, considering staffing levels, priorities, and last-minute changes/needs. Provide Ward Clerk Cover to the base wards once Ward Clerk Team have finished for the day, and for sickness and annual leave across all IGSM wards when required. Development of appropriate training package(s) for new starters, including delegation of training provision to experienced Ward Clerks within the team. Ensure Ward Clerks receive regular on-to-ones, appraisals, mandatory training, and opportunity to sign off job specific competencies, as required. Encourage a culture of staff engagement where team members feel valued and actively encourage development across the staff base. Operate an effective communication procedure for all staff, including leading and participating in team meetings and one-to-ones. Ensure operational procedures and standards are maintained, any issues reported to the to the Service Co-Ordinator. Respond calmly and positively in times of conflict or uncertainty, seeking appropriate assistance to achieve resolution. Work collaboratively and flexibly with colleagues to ensure the delivery of a quality, effective, 'Patient First' service.
