Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust
The Heart care unit is a 19 bedded Cardiology unit with 10 monitored beds and 9 cardiology step down beds with the ability to telemetry monitor 12 patients at a time.
The Heart care unit provides care to patients presenting with a wide range of acute cardiac conditions such as heart attacks, NSTEMI, cardiac arrhythmias, and heart failure.
The Heart care unit also undertakes a number of cardiology procedures including the insertion of permanent pacemakers, loop recorders, Transoesophageal Echos (TOEs), and Dobutamine Stress Echos (DSE). All staff members would be involved in supporting these procedures.
We have also started to undertake Cardiac MR scans and we will eventually be the primary centre for the whole of the Northern Care Alliance, which will require staff to rotate to support this procedure as well.
Main duties of the job
You will be a qualified nurse with experience in an acute setting and an interest in cardiology. You will also be able to demonstrate high standards of care achieved through evidence-based practice.
Some cardiology experience would be desirable but not essential, as you will be supported to develop your skills through our in-house cardiology competencies and study days, supported by our own Cardiology Consultants and ACPs, as well as the ward's band 6s and ward manager.
All members of staff will also be offered the opportunity to undertake the Advanced Life Support course (ALS) as part of your continued development and to provide you with the skills to manage emergency situations.
You must be able to work as a team member and as an independent practitioner, adhering to the NMC code of conduct. Good communication skills are essential.
The post will also provide an excellent opportunity to further develop your leadership and managerial skills, supported by the ward manager in both professional and educational development along with clinical audits.
The expectation is that you will be able to undertake complete 24-hour rotational shifts from days to nights, though flexible working patterns can be offered.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as a Registered Nurse in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled in a course that means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.
The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely. To learn more about how you can gain a full NMC PIN to be eligible to apply for our vacancies in the future, please see the NMC website: https://www.nmc.org.uk/registration/joining-the-register/register-nurse-midwife/trained-outside-uk/how-to-guide/
We recognise that many people find interviews daunting, and the conventional interview approach of unseen questions often impacts performance on the day. We are therefore piloting sending interview questions to candidates in advance.
This vacancy is within one of our pilot areas; therefore, if you are invited for an interview, you will receive your interview questions in advance of your interview date. Feedback on this process will also be requested to help our teams understand and evaluate your recruitment experience.
