The post holder will work as a senior Registered Nurse in the endoscopy unit, taking responsibility for managing the unit as part of the managerial nursing team, role modelling to colleagues, flexibly working over seven days both within the unit and remote lists.
The role will be diverse but predominantly clinical. Responsibilities include strong inspirational leadership, management, education, complex stores and ordering (taking into account financial constraints), pre-procedure assessment and vital ongoing JAG / GRS work. This isn’t an exhaustive list of responsibilities; change will be continual as the endoscopy unit evolves, heading towards its new build later this year.
The post holder will sensitively support and care for both in and out patients, pre and post procedure, electronically admitting and discharging patients. They will also work within the procedure rooms, guiding and supporting nursing colleagues and endoscopists.
The post holder will understand and model the Trusts ‘Vision and Values’. They will be familiar with, and work to, the protocols and policies of the endoscopy department, involving themselves with the regular review of these and Trust policies.
The post holder will order and review safe storage and use of medicines. They will participate in stock control and use of ‘Patient Group Directives’.
Main duties of the job
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Managing the running of the unit and remote areas on a day to day basis, liaising with colleagues, reporting to and informing endoscopy manager.
* Leading and inspiring staff in a fast paced, evolving environment.
* Managing change and challenges whenever they arise, escalating as appropriate through the management team.
* Promoting team awareness and compliance of national, professional, and local quality issues relevant to the delivery of nursing services e.g. clinical governance, Global Rating Scale (GRS) and Joint Advisory Group (JAG).
* Meeting and greeting patients arriving for their endoscopy procedures, electronically admitting them prior to their procedure, caring for them during the procedure and subsequent recovery, and then discharging from the unit.
* Ensuring patient safety, privacy and dignity before, during and after investigation, especially if sedation is involved.
* Taking responsibility for consent process, following the Trust policy and endoscopy guidelines, ensuring that patients understand the procedures including risks and benefits and that staff are supported in remaining up to date.
* Ensuring patients’ safe discharge arrangements in accordance with endoscopy protocols and the HDFT Discharge Policy.

Assisting with the manual handling of patients, demonstrating excellent TILEO risk assessment practice to colleagues using equipment.
Maintaining procedure rooms by stocking up equipment and documentation as required. Ordering stock using financial awareness, questioning practice. Using resources efficiently and effectively.
Ensuring that equipment is in working order and reporting faults accordingly.
Being aware of own limitations and knowing when to seek advice, demonstrating this as a strength to colleagues.
Following local and Trust policies but being involved in discussions about service improvement/proposed changes to such policies, paying particular attention to the Infection Control Policy.
Supporting and liaising with clinicians of all grades.
Maintaining and demonstrating skills in confidentiality and ensuring secure systems are in place for the storage of data.
