Senior Theatre Registered Veterinary Nurse
Location: Cranes Point, Gardiners Lane South, Basildon, Essex
Hours: Full time
Practice: Southfields Veterinary Specialists
If you're ready to take the next exciting step in your nursing career, we have something truly special for you. Southfields Veterinary Specialists is on the lookout for a passionate and driven Senior Theatre Nurse to become a key part of our dynamic and growing team.
This is not just a job - it's a chance to be part of something bigger. Since moving into our cutting-edge, 40,000 sq. ft veterinary hospital in 2022, we've continued to grow and evolve, and now we're inviting someone exceptional to help us shape the future of theatre nursing here at Southfields.
What makes this role special?
As a Senior Nurse, you'll guide, support, and energise a fantastic team of skilled Veterinary Nurses and Patient Care Assistants, helping them thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. You'll be a hands-on leader with a calm, confident presence and a love for patient care that's infectious.
Your days will be filled with variety - managing a busy elective and emergency surgical caseload, working alongside some of the UK's top specialists, and making a real impact on the lives of patients and their families. You'll bring your sharp clinical eye, brilliant communication, and natural organisational flair to a department that's as rewarding as it is challenging.
You'll also participate in a shared rota to support mornings, evenings, and weekends, playing an essential role in our round-the-clock care model. Weekend shifts involve being the senior nurse onsite - coordinating and supporting the team, ensuring high-quality care for inpatients, and assisting with any emergency referrals that may arise. It's a key leadership moment, and one where your calm, confident approach will really shine.
A bit about you:
* You're an experienced veterinary nurse with a strong surgical/theatre background.
* You have previous leadership experience, and people are naturally drawn to your energy, positivity, and professionalism.
* You love a good challenge and aren't afraid to think on your feet (or get them moving fast!).
* You communicate clearly, confidently, and with heart - whether you're talking to consultants or supporting new team members.
* Bonus points if you've worked in a referral setting, but what matters most is your mindset and passion for excellence.
Why Southfields?
You'll be stepping into a world-class hospital with seven fully equipped theatres, surrounded by a team who genuinely care - about their patients, their work, and each other. Here, your voice will be heard, your ideas will help shape how we grow, and your dedication will be truly valued.
Career Development Opportunities
This is a brilliant chance to build on your leadership skills in a supportive, forward-thinking environment. You'll work together with our Clinical Services Team Lead and Head of Nursing Services, playing a key role in shaping the future of our surgical nursing team.
* You'll influence, guide, and mentor your team to reach both personal and departmental goals.
* As the first port of call for line management, you'll support, coach, and champion the people you work alongside every day.
* You'll also be involved in recruitment, helping to select and welcome the next wave of nursing talent to our ever-growing team.
The clinical exposure here is exceptional- from neurology to soft tissue, orthopaedics to ophthalmology, cardiology to exotics, you'll have the chance to broaden your knowledge and deepen your expertise every single day.
To support your transition into this leadership role, you'll be enrolled onto the Linnaeus Empower Leadership Course, designed to help you grow your confidence and skills as a leader. We also actively encourage networking and collaboration across the Linnaeus family to help you stay inspired and connected.
What kind of person are we looking for?

* Confidence in making decisions, delegating, and managing competing priorities.
* The ability to influence change and push for excellence across clinical services.
