An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Midwife (Band 8a) in North Highland with a Highland wide reach. The post will have a focus on Midwifery Led Care encompassing the pregnancy journey and all birth settings available in NHS Highland. The post holder will work closely with women/ birthing people and staff with individual choices and building confidence and competences in midwifery led care. NHS Highland is in a unique position within Scotland, with 8 rural & remote Community Midwifery led Units and home birth service across Highland. There is one consultant led unit and the aim is to develop a low risk birthing room within the labour suite.
We are looking for a midwife with a passion to support normality with varied experience across midwifery settings, including community and significant experience in leadership. We are looking for an excellent role model for staff, who can work with the leadership to shape a sustainable future for our CMU’s in NHS Highland. The person will be skilled in working with families and offering person centred care. There will be a small element of staff management within the role.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
