General Foreman ¦ SPEN Sector: Civils & Electrical (Power & Energy) Location: Regional Office - CumbernauldSite Based – Glasgow / Glenrothes, Scotland (initial site location) Business Context: We are looking for an experienced General Foreman with a robust background in managing projects for Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN). This role is situated in a busy and fast-paced project and maintenance environment where you will oversee a variety of multi-disciplinary civil engineering projects. The wider regional team is also responsible for delivering infrastructure projects and maintenance works for a diverse portfolio of clients including Local Authorities, Network Rail, and Environmental Agencies. Our current portfolio includes several live infrastructure projects and long-term renewals and maintenance frameworks such as the Civils Asset Management (CAM), Renewals Enhancement Framework (REF), and a Slabtrack framework. Typical projects cover a range of civil engineering works and infrastructure, including highways and roads, bridges (under, over, and footbridges), tunnels, earthworks, flood alleviation, repairs, and rail station infrastructure. Role Summary: As General Foreman you will have the responsibility for planning and implementing the successful delivery of engineering projects on behalf of Scottish Power & Energy Networks. Day to day duties and responsibilities will typically include but not be limited to: • Ensuring the Health, Safety and Welfare of employees and others under their direct control through compliance with the requirements of the Supervisors Health and Safety Responsibility Statement • Ensuring that all company and client Health &Safety and Environmental initiatives are effectively implemented • The reporting of any unsafe practices • The promotion of a continuous improvement culture and the use of best practice. • The effective leadership, supervision, utilisation and monitoring of Direct and Subcontract Labour Force • Delivery of works within programme and to budget, ensuring that the works are executed in accordance with the requirements of: o All applicable legislation o The Terms and Conditions of the contract o The Contract Health and Safety Plan o The Contract Quality / Environmental Plan o The Network Rail approved Works Package Plans and Task Briefing Sheets o The approved Construction Drawings and Specification o The Policies and Procedures contained within the Company Business Management System • Ensuring that Quality standards are achieved and are ‘right first time’ • The continuous monitoring of the progress of the works to ensure contract objectives are being met • Ensuring that, changes to the scope of works are identified, agreed, implemented and effectively managed • Ensuring that robust records are maintained i.e. diaries, allocation sheets, plant etc. • The provision of formal reports on progress to the Project Manager/Site Agent • Ensuring that all relevant issues, which cannot be resolved at site level, are passed for the attention of the Project Manager / Site Agent • The identification and implementation of training needs for directly employed operatives employees under their control Requirements: This role requires a proven track record as a General Foreman in overseeing substation works. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential. Previous experience as a General Foreman in a power and energy or civil engineering project environment. Valid SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certification. SPEN Authorisations in accordance with the 5th Edition Safety Rules. Valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
