The Southover Partnership is a specialist independent school that provides high-quality education, and pastoral support to children with social, emotional and mental health needs, autism and other complex needs.
The Outreach Service provides tailored one-to-one tuition and support for young people with EHCPs who are not able to attend school for various reasons. These sessions take place at pupils’ homes or in local venues such as libraries.
Job Purpose
We are looking to appoint a qualified, passionate, enthusiastic, and visionary leader with experience of managing provision for vulnerable young people. The successful candidate will have Qualified Teacher Status, a thorough understanding of safeguarding procedures, and exceptional organisational skills. They will also have an understanding of how to support pupils with SEND and experience managing a team.
The role will predominantly involve building and coordinating the academic and pastoral provision for vulnerable pupils, leading the Outreach staff team, liaising with colleagues within our partnership, as well as with LAs, other schools, and parents/carers.
The person will be responsible for the management of the Southover Outreach Service. The main expectations of the role are to:
1. Lead and further develop a high-quality Outreach Service, coordinating the day-to-day operation and specific provision of support for pupils.
2. Review and assess student referrals to identify pupils for whom we can meet need, signpost them to the most appropriate provision within Southover Partnership, and arrange appropriate transitions/inductions as required.
3. Maintain and monitor the strategic overview of the provision for Outreach pupils, ensuring their needs are being met.
4. Review curriculum, planning, and teaching for Outreach pupils to ensure that teachers, tutors, and TAs are providing the most appropriate curriculum and delivering it effectively.
5. Provide guidance, training, and direction to the Outreach staff members as required.
6. Analyse assessment and other progress data for pupils, using this to direct further development and actions by staff members.
7. Take part in Annual Reviews, parent/carer meetings, and target setting/review meetings for Outreach pupils.
8. Position the Outreach Service to be a market leader in SEN provision within 3 years; developing a high-quality service that is well-regarded in the community.
9. Keep up to date with national and local frameworks.
10. Extend our client base to Local Authorities and new schools.
11. Strengthen links between Southover Schools and the Southover Outreach Service.
12. Lead on other whole-school projects and developments as part of the Southover Partnership SLT.
13. Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of young pupils within the Outreach service.
Main Duties/ Responsibilities
Strategic Improvement
The Deputy Head of Southover Outreach Service is responsible for:
1. Working with the Executive Headteacher and wider SLT to set the strategic improvement of the service.
2. Writing, reviewing, and evaluating the Southover Outreach Service improvement plan and ensuring it is implemented.
3. The management of the budget for the service.
4. Devising a team structure to meet the needs of pupils.
5. Ensuring teachers have a consistent and continuous focus on pupils’ achievement, using data and benchmarks to monitor progress in every child’s learning.
6. Designing and organising relevant staff training.
Operational
1. Managing the process of matching pupils to staff members who can best support them.
2. Monitoring and evaluating teachers’ subject knowledge, the quality of teaching, and pupils’ achievement; challenging underperformance at all levels and ensuring effective follow-up action.
3. Building and maintaining positive relationships with SEND leaders.
4. Ensuring that there are sufficient high-quality staff available to meet the needs of our pupils.
5. Producing relevant leadership/management information for the Executive Headteacher as and when required.
6. Delivering relevant training to Outreach staff.
7. Working with the Executive Headteacher of the Southover Partnership and within the Southover Outreach Service to ensure a consistent and continuous service-wide focus on pupils’ achievement, using data and benchmarks to monitor progress in every child’s learning.
8. Developing and maintaining a culture of high expectations for self and others, taking appropriate action promptly when performance is unsatisfactory.
9. Developing and presenting a coherent, understandable, and accurate account of the Southover Outreach Service’s performance and impact to a range of audiences including Trustees, schools, parents and carers and local authority staff.
10. Capability to serve as the Deputy Head of School at the SPS site, overseeing daily operations in their absence
