Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced neonatal nurse with QIS to join the Continuing Care Team at Jessop Wing Neonatal Unit, providing continuing care for babies and their families into the community in the home setting.
Based in the Neonatal Clinic and the families' home setting, you will help coordinate and continue the ongoing care of babies who have been cared for within the Neonatal Service. The candidate must be a car driver.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide safe and effective care to babies born before 34 weeks gestation, babies who have spent more than 21 days in hospital on the Neonatal Unit, babies who are less than 2 kg at discharge, and babies who have gone home requiring nasogastric tube feeding.
2. Provide care to babies with a variety of specialist needs, including complications caused by prematurity, complex care needs, and congenital abnormalities.
3. Support families with babies requiring help to establish responsive feeding or with specialist feeding requirements.
4. Care for babies requiring home oxygen and coordinate this care with specialist respiratory nurses from Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
5. Carry out blood sampling in the patient’s home and clinic.
6. Ensure insurance covers business use for the car and have no more than 3 penalty points (mileage is paid via E-expenses when registered and claimed monthly).

Person specification
Education and Qualifications
* Registered nurse (valid with NMC)
* Advanced Diploma Nursing Studies or equivalent
* Qualified in Neonatal Speciality (QIS)
* Completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998 or equivalent.
* RSCN/child branch
* R23 or equivalent (enhancing neonatal practice) held or working towards first level degree, enhanced skills
* Leadership course or similar
* Professional Nurse advocate course, willingness to complete
Experience
* Evidence of management and leadership qualities
* Significant experience in neonatal Intensive care at staff nurse or sister/charge nurse level post neonatal qualification
Further Training
* Current Newborn Life Support
* Experience of safeguarding Neonatal families and babies.
* Paediatric Life support Community Course
* Professional Nurse Advocate
* Effective communicator, leadership skills, ability to participate in education of others, assertiveness, role model
* Able to work as a lone worker in the community – be aware of escalation process for concerns

* Current UK driving licence with no more than 3 points
