Knowsley Development Trust (KDT) is seeking to appoint multiple Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to join our board and support the organisation in its strategic growth and governance. As a Trust that predominantly manages and leases property to businesses, we are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in legal/conveyancing and financial acumen, alongside broader strategic leadership and governance experience.
KDT plays a vital role in fostering economic growth and sustainability by providing affordable business premises, supporting employment and training opportunities, and reinvesting in socially impactful initiatives. In 2024 alone, KDT generated £3.73 million in Social Impact Value, demonstrating a strong commitment to economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
Role of a Non-Executive Director
As a Non-Executive Director, you will provide independent oversight, strategic direction, and constructive challenge to the executive team, ensuring KDT meets its objectives effectively and sustainably. You will bring expertise, insight, and professional experience to guide decision-making, governance processes, and social value initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to the strategic leadership of KDT, ensuring the organisation meets its objectives effectively.
* Provide independent oversight and constructive challenge to the executive team.
* Support the governance framework, ensuring compliance with regulatory and financial obligations.
* Offer expertise in property management, finance, legal, or other relevant areas to enhance decision-making.
* Monitor organisational performance against key objectives and risk management strategies.
* Act as an ambassador for KDT, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, businesses, and the local community.
* Support the Trust’s mission to deliver social value, including employment, training, and environmental initiatives.
Person Specification
We are looking for individuals who bring expertise, professional integrity, and a passion for supporting economic and business development. Ideal candidates will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
* Strong understanding of property law, leasing agreements, and commercial real estate transactions.
* Experience in contract negotiation, compliance, and risk mitigation within the property sector.
* Ability to advise on legal matters related to property management and business leasing.
* Proven experience in financial oversight, investment strategies, and risk management.
* Understanding of property portfolio financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.
* Knowledge of corporate finance, tax regulations, and financial compliance.
Governance and Strategic Leadership
* Experience serving on boards or senior leadership teams, ideally within property, business development, or economic regeneration.
* Strong understanding of corporate governance principles and regulatory requirements.
* Ability to constructively challenge and support the executive team to drive performance and accountability.
Business and Social Value Experience
* Experience in commercial property management, leasing, or asset investment.
* Strong networks and stakeholder engagement within the business and property sectors.
* Understanding of social value principles, including economic regeneration, employment, and sustainability.
* Awareness of the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 and its implications for business operations.
Time Commitment & Remuneration
* The role requires a commitment to meet, in person, approximately 8 times per year.
* This is a voluntary role.
