About the Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer to develop into the role of a team leader or who is looking to take the next step in Leadership. This is an exciting opportunity to build on your existing role as Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to develop into a Team leader role. Whilst working as Senior Engineer, you will be supporting a team of designers, graduates, and senior Mechanical designers. You will be managing internal and external client relationships to ensure projects are executed safely within time, cost, and quality and to the customer requirements.
With the support of the Operations Manager, you will lead improvements to create better ways of working through collaboration and maximising efficiency. Preparation of forward work forecasts and capability requirements within the team. An active member of ED to drive, support and demonstrate value, maximising opportunities, and commitment to ED business objectives.
As a Senior Designer, you will work with a team of designers to deliver innovative and practical design solutions that support small to large-scale engineering projects. Your leadership will ensure the success of critical design activities in highly regulated environments. You will be responsible for supporting the design team, which supports major projects. You will deliver high-quality design work, focusing on mechanical components, manufacturing drawings, and detailed 3D models. This role involves managing multiple design tasks and ensuring technical accuracy and compliance.
This will be 20% Team lead and 80% technical, with opportunity to progress into a manager role.
This role is based out of Birchwood office with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office, but may require additional days on site for project and collaboration with others.
Key Responsibilities
* Effectively managing internal and external client relationships to ensure projects are executed safely within time, cost, and quality and to the customer requirements.
* Develop, manage, and lead improvements with support from the Operations Manager to create better ways of working through collaboration and maximising efficiency.
* Preparation of forward work forecasts and capability requirements within the team.
* An active member of Engineering Development to drive, support and demonstrate value, maximising opportunities, and commitment to Engineering Development business objectives.
* Provide line management of staff within the team, supporting the development of junior colleagues through their career progression and aspirations.
* Reviewing and assessing Design Work Requests, ensuring designs comply with industry standards and client specifications.
* Producing 2D and 3D CAD drawings using Inventor, Revit, and other software.
Here’s What You’ll Need
* Extensive experience in a regulated industry, particularly in design for assembly and manufacturing processes.
* Proficiency in Inventor, AutoCAD, and other design software, including familiarity with Inventor Vault.
* Strong leadership and project management skills, with experience overseeing design teams.
* Qualification to HNC/HND standard in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience).
* Familiarity with UK regulations, including Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and Construction Design Management (CDM).
* Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills.
* Strong attention to detail and understanding of technical design standards.
* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
