West Kent MHT+ is a diverse multi-cultural team that is looking to recruit a Band 5 Mental Health Nurse into a development post, with a view to achieving a Band 6 status at the end of the agreed period.
The successful applicant is to work within the team, providing specialist mental health care for people with multiple and complex needs by offering interventions that promote recovery.
If you are interested in developing your skills and delivering clinical care for people with complex emotional difficulties, depression, psychosis, and other mental health presentations, we are the team for you.
Full training and support will be provided to ensure that you have the skills and confidence to deliver.
Main duties of the job
* To act as a Practice Assessor.
* To adhere to the NMC registration and revalidation requirements.
* To adhere to KMPT's policies, procedures, and guidelines.
* To support and behave in a way that upholds KMPT Trust values.
* To assess, act on and report any safeguarding concerns.
* To optimise health and wellbeing; promoting self-care where possible, helping people to make choices about their needs and involve their carers where appropriate.
* You may be required to manage, administer medications and monitor their effects.
* You may be required to carry out specific duties relevant to the setting of community care depot and clozapine clinics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To provide interventions to promote recovery.
* To assess risk and identify clients needs.
* To join work with other agencies involved in the clients care.
* Recording and reporting accurately any changes related to the patient’s current behaviour and risks using red board meetings daily or to team managers.
* Recording care given in a timely manner as per professional and local standards using approved KMPT systems.
* To supervise a range of other staff and their activities as delegated.
* Acting as a role model and supporting new team members through demonstration and explanation of tasks and techniques.
* Undertake and maintain all essential training to role.
Person specification
Registered Mental Health
* Current NMC registration.
* Knowledge and ability to apply relevant legislative frameworks and policies relating to care, e.g. Mental Capacity Act.
* Previous experience of working in adult mental health.
* Previous experience of working within the NHS.
Clinical knowledge
* Sound understanding of secondary mental health diagnoses.
* Completion of Edward Jenner Programme.
* Good understanding of Physical Health conditions.
* Understanding of interventions offered in CMHT.
* Previous experience of working in clozapine/depot clinics.
Mental Health Knowledge
* Understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983 amended 2007.
* Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act.
* Understanding of cognitive behavioural therapy.

Induction
KMPT is committed to supporting all new staff and this includes a comprehensive Induction programme. The programme's duration depends on role and can be from 2 days to 4 weeks (not always consecutive days).
The Induction programme will provide an excellent opportunity for new staff to meet and engage with KMPT’s subject specialists and include the required training.
The programme may involve some travel to the various training venues across Kent and Medway, the main ones being Canterbury, Maidstone and Dartford.

Probation Period. New employees external to Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust are subject to a six-month probationary period.
