Job summary
Following on from a commitment to investment in the pharmacy team at Kingston Hospital, we have an excellent opportunity to join our friendly and well-respected team as a Senior Pharmacist in Neurology (Band 8a). This is a brand-new post in the trust and will provide professional, governance and financial medicines leadership to the Neurology Service at Kingston hospital.
Are you an enthusiastic, motivated clinical pharmacist with an interest in neurology? Would you like to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage the pharmacy service to neurology?
As a Pharmacist specialising in this post you will initially play a role in the coordination and delivery of treatment for patients with multiple sclerosis, with the opportunity to use your skills across neurology. The successful candidate will work closely with the multidisciplinary teams and be responsible for cost-effective and safe use of disease modifying therapies within the department. Excellent inter-personal and leadership skills are essential with the ability to build professional relationships and act as a role model for the pharmacy profession.
Experience in working in neurology is desirable, but not essential for the right candidate, as there will be opportunities to support your learning and development.
Main duties of the job
1. This is a key role within the pharmacy team delivering services to the Neurology service. The post holder will be an active member of both the pharmacy and the Neurology teams to ensure continuous two-way exchange of information and maintain high standards of clinical care in supporting medicines use.
2. To develop the provision of clinical pharmacy services to the Neurology service in accordance with the needs of patients, the clinical team and the required standards of quality and professional practice.
3. To lead work with the specialist nurses & consultants to implement timely biosimilar switches to maximise savings to the trust.
4. To provide specialist medicines management, prescribing and advice to medical and nursing staff on drugs for the neurology service.

Job responsibilities
1. To provide and develop a specialist clinical pharmacy service to the Neurology service.
2. To co-ordinate and monitor the safe and timely provision of high-cost drugs.
3. To lead on finance reporting of drug expenditure for the Neurology service.
4. To lead in the development and delivery of the Neurology service, including medicines supplied via homecare, ensuring a safe and patient-focused approach within this specialist area.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
1. Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council
2. Post Graduate Certificate Pharmacy Practice
3. Post Graduate Clinical Diploma / Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice
4. Independent Prescribing Qualification/ willing to undertake training
Experience and Skills
Essential
1. Comprehensive post-registration training and experience in hospital pharmacy - this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of acute hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, ward services and dispensing).
2. Demonstrable experience in general clinical practice including medicine and surgery.
3. Risk management of medicines.
4. Audit experience.
5. Commitment to CPD.
Desirable
1. Experience in neurology services.
2. Working within a clinical directorate.
3. Database skills including JAC & CRS EPrescribing Knowledge.
