Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Radiologist to join, on a 12 month fixed-term contract, a team of 50 radiologists to provide specialist urological imaging in addition to general radiology services. Additional subspecialty interests are also welcomed. This is a replacement post which will be based at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHPNT), primarily Derriford Hospital, commencing at a time of significant and exciting developments within the trust. Derriford Hospital is a major trauma centre, and most of the regional specialist units are located in this hospital, including renal transplant, complex urology, andrology, hepatobiliary surgery, hepatology, paediatrics, cardiothoracics and neurosurgery. The trust has received significant central funding as part of the Future Hospitals Programme (FHP) to redevelop the site, with a new build opening September 2025 providing a new Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care, Interventional radiology suites, and emergency theatres, each area with its own dedicated imaging facilities. Central funding has also been secured for the development of a fully NHS owned and operated Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) with 2 CT, 2 MR, 2 plain film and 4 ultrasound suites providing diagnostic services in the centre of Plymouth. This is also due to open in September 2025 and will provide dedicated consultant office and reporting space in a purpose-built city-centre environment. Main duties of the job Diagnostic imaging of Urology patients is a significant aspect of specialist radiological work in Plymouth. The team provide comprehensive diagnostic radiology services to the Plymouth region, and tertiary imaging services for complex renal, bladder and prostate cancer treatment, renal stone disease and andrology. UHP is a renal transplant centre. There is a comprehensive local Uroradiology imaging service, including uro-oncology work and non-cancer urology imaging. The Plymouth uro-oncology MDT combines with the Royal Cornwall Hospital urology surgical team for major cancer cases which are discussed jointly via video link. Ultrasound within UHP is a well-resourced department providing full non-obstetric diagnostic and therapeutic service including contrast, fusion, elastography, and intervention within a collaborative, forward thinking department lead jointly by radiologists and sonographers.
