South Tyneside Talking Therapies is an award-winning service and one of the highest performing services at both regional and national level.
The post holder will have an exciting opportunity to support our Learning Disability pathway which offers screenings and treatment to clients who have a Learning Disability and are experiencing mental health difficulties. Treatment sessions will be offered via 1:1 as well as group interventions. The post holder will also have the opportunity to develop pathways into the service through liaison with key referrers, attend service promotional events and develop their skills through innovative service developments. Having experience in using reasonable adjustments and working with clients with Learning Disabilities will be key for this role.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide screenings and high intensity interventions as part of the Talking Therapies team which includes various therapeutic models including CBT, IPT, CAT, EMDR, and Counselling.
The post holder will be expected to have a commitment to a holistic model of mental health and working with partners to address client need through 1:1 work and group work utilizing reasonable adjustments where required.
There is recognition that staff can realize their potential through effective clinical and management supervision, managerial support, and through access to internal and external training.
Staff development and their wellbeing are accepted as priorities, and we have a long established Wellbeing Strategy Group which develops wellbeing initiatives for the service.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be part of South Tyneside Lifecycle Primary Care Mental Health Service, which incorporates Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) and Child Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS). They will work with adults who have a range of common mental health problems in primary care using NICE high intensity treatment interventions such as CBT, IPT, EMDR, CAT, Counselling for Depression. They will use traditional and innovative treatment methods.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Qualification from High Intensity IAPT Course (Post Graduate Diploma or Degree).
* OR Equivalent: e.g. A recorded/registered doctoral level qualification in clinical or counselling psychology/post graduate qualification training in a psychological therapy which may be CBT or another IAPT appropriate evidence based therapy (i.e. IPT) to at least equivalent of a post graduate diploma.
* Significant experience working as a psychological therapy practitioner and demonstrating the competences as required.
* Relevant experience in Primary Care treating anxiety and depression.
Experience
* Demonstrable experience of working in mental health services.
* Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets.
* Ability to manage own caseload and time.
* Demonstrates high standards in written communication.
* Able to write clear reports and letters to referrers.
* Experience with routine outcome monitoring.
* Experience of teaching and liaising with other professional groups.
* Experience of working in Primary Care Services.
* Experience of working with individuals with a suspected or diagnosed Learning Disability.
* Worked in a service where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.
Training
* Able to attend supervision training if not already trained, and other training as the post develops.
* Good record of Continuing Professional Development and willingness to continue this.
Skills and Competencies
* Full range of skills and competencies required to deliver relevant High Intensity Therapy.
* Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
* Has received training (either formal or through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice.
* Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.
* Trained in provision of supervision for CBT/relevant therapy.
* Accredited with a professional psychological therapy organisation.
* Completed clinical audits within a service.
Knowledge
* Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in individuals with a Learning Disability/Difficulty.
* Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health/benefits & employment systems.
* Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems.
* Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
* Knowledge of child protection issues and other relevant legislation.
