Job Description
Compliance Officer (Financial) - Maternity Cover - This is a 50/50 split of Work from home and in office, e.g., one week in office, one week from home. Our client based in Bristol at Emersons Green near the junction of the M4 and M32 (commutable from Bristol, Bath, Chippenham, Swindon, etc.) are experts in the Financial Compliance industry, focusing mainly on the Motor Trade and Travel. They have one of the UK's largest regulatory networks with many retail sites (Network Members) across the UK benefiting from a range of Finance and Insurance services.
By providing Appointed Representative status, they shoulder the burden of compliance (of being Directly Authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)) so their customers can concentrate on running their day-to-day businesses.
They are looking for somebody to come in from January 2nd initially for maternity cover for 10 months, though there could be a possibility of a long-term permanent opportunity due to continued expansion. Initially, it will be a Fixed Term agreement on a pro-rata salary of £30,000, like a permanent member of staff.
Job Purpose
The successful candidate will report into the Head of Compliance and will work within the Compliance Department in collaboration with the rest of the business. They will manage a caseload of Network Members and/or work with management to develop and review the necessary oversight of the companies Compliance Network, through monthly checks or quarterly where appropriate, ensuring they are operating within required regulatory standards and within the companies risk appetite.
The caseload will comprise of Network Members who have both General Insurance and Consumer Credit permissions under the business.
What do I need to succeed?
1. Be able to manage business relationships with a professional approach.
2. Have a proven track record of working within a risk, compliance, or regulatory role, ideally demonstrating performance over a minimum of one year.
3. Have good investigation and analytical skills, particularly when reviewing complex and ambiguous information.
4. Be able to critically review and make judgements on the compliance of written and verbal communications against defined criteria.
5. Have good organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise individual workload.
6. Possess good written, oral communication and presentation skills.
7. Comply at all times with the companies principles, ethics, commitments and codes of practice.
8. Must achieve and maintain minimum levels of competency for all aspects of the role as defined by company policy.
9. Ensure awareness of and adopt changes in regulatory practice and guidelines.
Desirable Skills and Experience
1. Experience of working in a retail insurance or consumer credit environment.
2. To adhere to good conduct and Treating Customer Fairly (TCF) ethos in all work activity.
3. Understanding of the Motor and/or Travel industry sectors.
4. Understanding of FCA rules and guidance, in particular DISP, PRIN, SYSC, SUP, CONC, ICOBS.
5. Excellent computer skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Undertake desktop reviews (across Insurance and Consumer Credit) to ensure suitability for Network Members and end consumers, ensuring compliance with relevant rules and guidelines (e.g., CONC, ICOBS, TCF) across key business areas to include:

4. Financial Promotions
5. Websites (including Social Media)
6. Call Monitoring (2LOD)
7. Responding to Compliance queries on behalf of your caseload of Network Members and company employees.
8. Escalate any identified risks & network breaches to the Head of Compliance.
9. Collate management information and produce reports as requested by the Head of Compliance.
10. Handle inbound/outbound calls to agreed company standards, whilst maintaining appropriate records.
