Net Zero Technical Lead - Reigate, Surrey
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Net Zero Technical Lead to join our innovative team focused on driving sustainable solutions in the fight against climate change. Main Responsibilities
1. Lead the development and execution of strategies to achieve net zero carbon emissions across the Client estate.
2. Undertake detailed energy audits and feasibility studies to produce accurate reports detailing necessary improvements to reduce energy use and carbon dioxide.
3. Create targeted plans for the highest carbon footprint assets and identify cost-effective ways to reduce carbon in these sites.
4. Create an overall carbon reduction plan demonstrating current carbon performance and the impact of proposed changes on the Client’s overall carbon performance, including a long-term five-year carbon reduction plan to achieve 2050 net zero carbon targets.
5. Provide technical and operational advice on carbon reduction and energy efficiency to all stakeholders and monitor energy and water consumption in the council’s portfolio of buildings, including schools.
6. Develop and advise on specific energy strategies for new builds and refurbishments to improve existing buildings’ Energy Performance to meet future corporate energy reduction targets.
7. Develop and manage the net zero budget, ensuring proper allocation of resources for initiatives, projects, and ongoing monitoring.
8. Seek external funding opportunities and grants to support sustainability initiatives and identify opportunities for innovation in sustainability practices.
9. Maintain, develop, and report data and KPIs relating to properties in the Client’s portfolio in terms of decarbonisation and provide insights.
10. Ensure that the strategic asset management plan incorporates decarbonisation at all levels of facilities management.
11. Work with the wider Macro FM team to ensure that the Client’s Greener Future team’s ambition is incorporated into business as usual.
12. Support the Client on key decarbonisation and sustainability programs including (but not limited to): Greener futures communities, net zero public estates, build back greener, and grow back greener.
13. Evaluate and recommend the adoption of emerging technologies, renewable energy sources, and energy-efficient practices to optimise operations and reduce environmental impact.
14. Engage with external partners, consultants, and government agencies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and leverage external expertise.
15. Lead and participate in educational and awareness-building initiatives to promote a culture of net zero within the organisation.
16. Liaise with technical teams across the portfolio to ensure Macro technical and compliance services and vendors support the function.
17. Establish and continually review client needs and expectations to ensure systems, procedures, and resources are in place to meet those needs.
18. Develop knowledge across the portfolio to drive innovation and best-in-class technical activities.
19. Monitor performance data for technical compliance and targeted technical targets and provide insights on recommendations or improvements.
20. Create compelling business cases to enhance or improve operations.
21. Deliver on key technical contractual performance targets.
22. Serve as a subject matter expert in all areas of Energy Management.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
1. Technical FM experience.
2. Excellent working knowledge of ISO 50001.
3. Familiarity with SBTi methodologies, CDP, TCFD, climate-related risk assessment, and scenario analysis.
4. Data analysis capabilities and familiarity with BI systems.
5. Experience with web-based applications/software.
6. MSc or equivalent in Energy Management.
7. Good IT skills, advanced user of MS Office and associated packages.
8. Membership of a relevant professional institution.
9. Experience managing a team remotely.
10. Higher qualification/HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
11. Quality competency, Six Sigma, etc.
12. People management skills.
13. Excellent communication skills.
14. Positive and proactive approach to problem-solving.
15. Energy Management qualification.
16. Commercial acumen.
