We are seeking a skilled Senior Structural Engineer to join our Building Design team in the South West. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural engineering and a passion for creating innovative and sustainable building designs. As a Structural Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and construction of various building projects, ensuring their structural integrity and safety.
Responsibilities:
* Work in a design environment with regular exposure to developers, architects, and local authorities.
* Preparation of reports, designs, specifications, and contract documents for various project types.
* Preparation of fee proposals.
* Design of structural elements in all materials to current standards and practices.
* Prepare calculation packs for submission to local authorities.
* Prepare NBS specification.
* Assist in the development of other members of staff, providing assistance and knowledge to enable progression.
* Demonstrate excellent written and face-to-face communication, with clear and concise presentation.
* Technically review designs produced by others and verify completeness to technical and company standards.
* Work closely with both Senior Staff and Managing Director on the proposal of new projects coming into the business.
* Full responsibility and project management of technical schemes to meet the requirements and expectations of clients.
* Be aware of the financial health of project fees and work within the fee of each project.
* Help prepare for, attend, and record internal and client project meetings.
* Co-operate with the Quality Management System through undertaking administrative activities.
* Carry the company brand and reputation through business development and marketing input.
Candidate Profile:
* Accredited Honors degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering.
* Chartered member (or working towards) of either Institution of Structural Engineers or Civil Engineers.
* At least 7-10 years' experience in a similar role, with knowledge and understanding of structural engineering design and construction.
* At least 3 years' worth of UK design experience (ideally in Residential & Commercial sectors).
* Working knowledge of National House Building Council (NHBC) regulations.
* Experience and understanding of working directly with design and build contractors, local authorities, and architects.
* Knowledge of construction, health and safety regulations, building regulations, and design codes.
* Ability to work with a team of Engineers and Graduates leading by example.
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Revit and design software such as TEKLA, TEDDS, and MasterSeries.
* Organise and prioritise your own time and tasks to enable the simultaneous running of several projects.
* Good ability to build up and maintain client and team relationships.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to communicate effectively and politely.
* Project management skills from initial start-up through to completion.
* Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively with other staff and as part of a team.
* Ability to work on own initiative.
* Fast and accurate typing skills, high level of proficiency in Microsoft packages.
