About the Role
Blackpool Council is a diverse employer who encourages the development of its staff to realise their full potential. We provide a supportive, flexible and engaging environment and promote job satisfaction for our staff, who in turn deliver high-quality services to the people of Blackpool.
The Building Surveying Team, where this role sits, is within the Property and Asset Management Service of Blackpool Council. This service is responsible for the design and delivery of a large and varied portfolio of exciting building-related projects across the town.
In this service, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, cost-effective, environmentally friendly buildings and are looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Building Surveyor to provide professional technical advice enabling clients to plan and manage their premises management responsibilities effectively. The successful candidate must also be able to produce planning and building regulation drawings and specifications, be confident and self-assured, with the ability to communicate with the wider team and lead projects from inception to completion.
The successful applicant will already have chartered status such as RICS / CIOB or be working towards it with a strong background in construction and building surveying.
This role requires a combination of technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills, so we’re looking for someone who is both approachable and skilled. We seek a Building Surveyor who brings enthusiasm and dedication, contributing to our ongoing success. The ability to forge lasting relationships with clients and colleagues is crucial, so a collaborative, team-focused approach is essential. You should be technically proficient and resilient, able to handle challenging conversations with clients when necessary. We’re looking for someone who takes ownership of building projects and strives to be an aspirational leader. Above all, your professionalism and integrity will inspire trust and confidence with clients, your team, and other stakeholders.
You will bring strong commercial awareness, a genuine passion for construction and design, and a solid understanding of the legislation that governs our work. Your technical expertise will enable you to identify potential building issues and develop effective solutions. This role offers the opportunity to write specifications and complete design requirements ahead of tendering. Additionally, your proficiency in AutoCAD will allow you to present technical information accurately through detailed graphical representations of the building work we undertake. You will be tasked with assessing various buildings of different ages and conditions, focusing on future-proofing and maintaining them for our local communities. By joining our team, you'll apply your industry knowledge to exciting projects, including remodelling and refurbishments, asbestos removal, building defect repairs, extensions, and future decarbonisation initiatives.
If you have the drive and determination to take on this challenge and wish to contribute to the local community, making a difference to the people of Blackpool, we'd like to hear from you.
