Overview
A leading multi-manager investment firm is seeking a highly capable and proactive Legal Counsel to cover a maternity leave role. This is a unique opportunity to step into a pivotal position within a fast-paced and dynamic environment, working directly with senior leadership on global expansion projects.
The role involves driving new office buildouts and market expansions across jurisdictions. This includes analysing regulatory landscapes, managing local counsel, and overseeing execution from start to finish. The successful candidate will need a sharp legal mind, strong project management skills, and exceptional commercial awareness to thrive in this role.
Key Responsibilities
* Jurisdictional Expansion:
* Analyse regulatory landscapes and licensing requirements for new jurisdictions.
* Advise on the appropriate legal entity structure and employment provisions.
* Action and execute all required steps to establish operations in new markets.
* Execution and Corporate Work:
* Manage corporate governance tasks, including incorporation, bank account setup, and legal opinions.
* Liaise with local counsel to interpret and execute legal advice, often "translating" nuanced guidance into actionable steps.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration:
* Work closely with senior leadership to align legal and regulatory work with broader business strategy.
* Act as a key driver of projects that support the firm’s ability to compete for new business and Portfolio Managers in global markets.
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Background:
* Qualified corporate or regulatory lawyer with strong academic and professional pedigree.
* Background at a leading law firm (e.g., private equity, regulatory, or tax experience highly regarded).
* Experience working with multi-manager firms or financial institutions is beneficial but not required.
* Skills and Attributes:
* Proven ability to manage complex, multi-jurisdictional legal projects.
* Strong commercial awareness and common sense; able to assess priorities and solve problems pragmatically.
* Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with senior leadership and external counsel.
* Highly organized, self-motivated, and adaptable to a fast-moving environment.
Timing and Availability
* The role requires someone to start as soon as possible to allow for sufficient time to shadow the current Legal Counsel before their maternity leave.
* This position is ideal for candidates who are immediately available or have a short notice period.
