Job Profile
Although this job is not UK based, the successful candidate will be required to attend training in the UK which will require a right to work.
As this job does not fulfil the UK Government minimum criterion for obtaining sponsored migrant worker status we will be unable to apply for sponsorship for anyone not eligible to work in the UK. At interview, all shortlisted candidates are required to bring with them identification documents and original documents that prove they hold or can obtain the right to work in the UK.

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for exceptional individuals to join our Field Coordinator team. BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. We employ experts from many different professions to carry out our Science as well as keep the lights on, feed the research and support teams, and keep everyone safe!

You’ll be joining our close-knit team of outdoor professionals at Rothera Research Station in Antarctica.
You’ll help us to deliver the upcoming Antarctic Field season by managing the deep Field logistics hubs, fuel depots, and static Field camps that support the BAS Field programme. In addition, you’ll play a part in delivering Antarctic survival training to staff and support essential Field science through the maintenance and preparation of Field equipment.
Some of your main responsibilities will include:
* Keeping people safe and comfortable in the field.
* Operating and maintaining Field logistics hubs and deep field fuel depots.
* Supporting aircraft operations by providing weather observations and ground support.
* Preparing and maintaining Field Equipment.
* Organising and supporting field and scientific cargo movements.
* Delivering field training in Antarctic campcraft and personal management.
* Providing direct support to science projects close to the station and deep field when appropriate.
For the role of Field Coordinator, we are looking for somebody who has:
* Group leadership and management in remote environments.
* Ability to dynamically identify hazards and apply appropriate mitigations and safe systems of work.
* Competency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
* Problem-solving abilities both practical and theoretical.
* Effective communications to team and station (sometimes remotely e.g., over HF Radio).
* Ability to make appropriate decisions about field safety in remote and hazardous environments.
* An understanding of group dynamics and conflict resolution.
