Reference: 90a8e4bc We are looking for a female PA to support our lovely 15 year old daughter for 6 hours per week Hours are flexible and can be negotiated but may include some weekends & potentially some evenings (to be arranged to meet her needs) Wages: £12.40 (gross) per hour at all times She was born with a spinal cord injury and is a full time manual wheelchair user. She has a tracheostomy and a gastrostomy, so some knowledge of tracheostomy/gastrostomy care would be desirable, but not essential. As a result of her spinal cord injury, she requires support with personal/intimate care. We are looking for someone to support and develop her independence, help with personal care and provide social support and companionship. It is essential that you are kind, patient, fun, understanding, sociable and able to relate to a child of her age. She is a very typical 15 year old and is able to communicate very well verbally, so it is important that you develop a good bond and that she feels comfortable with you. She loves shopping, social media, music, gaming and chatting. She can be shy and suffers with anxiety around social situations and noisy and crowded places, so we are looking for someone who will be empathetic towards this and will support her to develop her social skills and confidence. Additional tasks may include moving and handling, showering, dressing and performing day to day tasks. Some hours might be to support her to visit places away from home so a full clean driving licence would be desirable. SUPERVISION Our daughter’s personal assistant will be directed by and accountable to us in all aspects of their work. We expect our daughter ‘s personal assistant to use their own initiative, but to check anything out with us/our daughter if needed. She is really good at telling you exactly how she likes her care to be carried out, and what she likes/doesn’t like. MAIN DUTIES § Personal/intimate care – pad changing, showering, dressing etc. § Some moving and handling (use of transfer board / hoist) § Support to access interests both at home and in the community § Supporting with everyday tasks such as meal preparation, shopping, getting ready for bed/day § Supporting and monitoring healthcare needs where required § Supporting the learning of new skills and developing confidence and independence § Companionship PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential skills: · Friendly, warm, fun and outgoing with the ability to relate well to a teenage girl. · Kind, patient, understanding and empathetic, particularly to those struggling with anxiety. · Reliable, approachable and an excellent communicator. · Encouraging and supportive. § Moving and Handling trained. § Experience of carrying out personal/intimate care tasks (preferably with those of a similar age) Desirable skills: § A full, clean driving licence & own car § Experience in gastrostomy care and tracheostomy care § Experience of working with children of a similar age When applying please provide a short cover letter detailing any relevant experience, particularly in relation to how you meet the skills specified above.
