The Bristol Port Company operate the dynamic and advanced ports of Avonmouth and Royal Portbury Docks located in the Severn Estuary.
Hydrographic Surveyor The Role:
As the Statutory Harbour Authority, we are responsible for the provision of hydrographic surveys, the production and distribution of navigational charts and tide predictions, along with the monitoring and maintenance of Aids to Navigation and the promulgation of Notices to Mariners within our Harbour limits.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct hydrographic survey data acquisition, processing, and the production of final hydrographic products, including XYZs and charts, to a high standard and within deadlines.
2. Prepare reports, present hydrographic data and dredge progress, including volume calculations, and provide advisory support to the Harbour Master.
3. Inspect and maintain the Port's Aids to Navigation, ensuring compliance as the Local Lighthouse Authority.
4. Maintain hydrographic equipment, including mobilising and demobilising survey tools for vessel use.
5. Support the testing and trialling of new hydrographic and oceanographic equipment and software, staying up-to-date with industry advances.
6. Contribute to dredge campaigns, Conservancy projects, and training of marine staff, while promoting effective team communication and collaboration.
7. Assist the Deputy Harbour Master (Conservancy), as required.
You:
1. Hold a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a relevant marine, science, or hydrographic discipline.
2. Demonstrate experience in acquiring, assessing, interpreting, and validating hydrographic data.
3. Ideally, have experience using PDS2000 software.
4. Graduates with relevant academic qualifications but lacking experience will be considered, as on-the-job training is available.
5. Possess strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset, with a keen focus on quality and attention to detail.
6. A full driving licence and your own transport are essential for this role.
