Our mission At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), ‘zero emissions’ aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky. We won’t realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to ‘redefine’ aerospace best practices. We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030. What to expect This role will serve as the lead when defining, implementing and communicating the digital tools and systems necessary to enable the manufacturing engineering and production of our final and prototype aircraft build What you'll do Take responsibility for the establishment all of the digital manufacturing systems required for battery manufacturing Establish the use of 3DX Delmia for use by the manufacturing engineering team, including the definition of processes and training on the use of the system, including how to construct Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM), Bills of Process (BOP), Bills of Sequence (BOS), Work Instructions (WI) and Change management control Produce and optimise digital production line layouts to enable us to make key decisions on equipment procurement Specify and implement line-side manufacturing systems, including Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Operator Guidance Systems (OGS) and any associated digital tooling and measurement equipment Establish the processes and systems needed during production for data capture, traceability, build records and operational utilisation and efficiency (OEE) Work with the wider Manufacturing Engineering and Production teams in order to implement and ensure effective utilisation and value add from the systems. Manage and resolve complex technical issues related to manufacturing and product feasibility Work closely with the design and manufacturing teams and suppliers to ensure that all necessary requirements are implemented in the systems. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and certifications related to battery manufacturing and aerospace quality management. Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and performance enhancement, leading initiatives to drive continuous improvement. What you'll bring Have a strong background in high volume final assembly and lean manufacturing principals with relevant experience in new product introduction (NPI) Experience in manufacturing systems required to efficiently design manufacturing processes and deliver high-rate production (such as ERP/MRP, MES etc) You will have experience of design and engineering processes in order to establish the systems needed. Experience in automotive, aerospace or other associated industries is desired. You are a team player and great communicator at all levels of the organisation. Degree or suitable experience in a relevant engineering discipline. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams Proven manufacturing engineering experience in taking a product from prototype though to volume production (NPI). Expertise in manufacturing engineering and production systems, ideally within the aerospace or automotive industry. Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and certifications related to aerospace manufacturing and quality management systems is desirable Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, external suppliers, and stakeholders. Analytical mindset, with a data-driven approach to problem-solving and decision-making. Ability to thrive in a dynamic startup environment with a high degree of ambiguity and uncertainty, and a willingness to roll up sleeves and get things done IT skills and experience of 3DX would be a benefit What can you expect from us?
