An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Carbon Reduction and Sustainability Officer to help the University of Surrey improve its sustainability across a range of topics, from carbon and climate change to biodiversity and circular economy activity.

Role & Responsibilities
Working for the Energy Manager, you’ll be tasked with identifying carbon reduction projects, auditing buildings to find energy saving opportunities, writing business cases and helping to implement measures to help meet the University’s Net Zero Carbon goals. You will work closely with The Senior Controls Engineer (within the sustainability team).
The role will be an active one, walking the various campuses, accessing a variety of different spaces to enable full investigation of energy saving projects.
You will also be key in helping to deliver energy and sustainability projects and programs, such as the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) across the University, the water conservation program and behaviour change campaigns for energy.
Other Responsibilities Include
* Reviewing and analysing data, to help identify where energy is being wasted.
* Undertaking energy audits of buildings to identify carbon reduction projects, evaluating the carbon and financial return of these projects.
* Developing business cases for carbon reduction projects with the help of the Energy Manager and Head of Sustainability.
* Helping the Energy Manager and Head of Sustainability to implement carbon reduction projects.
* Gathering sustainability data, liaising with teams from across the University, and using the data to support annual reporting cycles and monitoring and targeting.
* With the support of the Energy Manager, learning to use the Building Management System in conjunction with the measuring and targeting (sub-metering platform) to identify and tackle energy waste.
* Helping the wider sustainability team implement sustainability projects across a broad range of topics from water and waste to procurement and behaviour change.
* Supporting the Head of Sustainability with the delivery of a Scope 3 carbon reduction plan and climate adaptation initiatives.
