Core Purpose:
This management role is to ensure that the production requirements are fulfilled in accordance with customer demand, quality standards, and cost structures. Also, to ensure the Production department supports the business objectives and constantly strives to outperform its targets. The Shift Manager is required to create a safe working environment where employees work with minimal supervision and their skill sets are developed, The Shift Manager must be engaged in continuous improvement activities proactively solving problems and decision-making to lead the site KPI’s.
The Shift Manager is a key liaison with cross functions ensuring that the site objectives are met effectively in a collaborative environment. The Shift Manager has autonomy across the site and will be required to step in and deputise for the Site Production Manager in their absence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Day-to-day management of operational areas to ensure the demands and goals are effectively met and achieved.
To ensure that the Company policies on Health and Safety, and Hygiene are adhered to and to develop the team and processes to continuously improve performance in their areas.
To lead, manage, and develop the Team Leaders / key skills and workforce, including setting objectives, carrying out appraisals and monitoring their progress and continuously coaching to aid their development.
To manage absence levels within the Production Department.
To ensure that quality standards are maintained with the support of the Quality team, encouraging frequent audits of production and utilising their services and guidance.
To develop an environment of continuous improvement and learning. Promote and mentor the use of A3 problem-solving techniques. (5 whys/fishbone CI tools)
To provide data on KPIs for performance measurement.
To manage OEE and waste levels within KPI targets.
To help control direct and indirect labour costs.
To ensure that a high level of communication is maintained at all times with the team and other departments.
To manage the Production budget within its provision. (Agency labour hour spend and OT)
To support the Site Production Manager and provide cover for absence.
To understand fully and abide by all the Company procedures, in particular the Disciplinary and Grievance procedures.
To increase the awareness of the cost of environmental and energy issues and promote their effective use.
To actively promote and protect the core values of the business and to encourage a culture of commitment and development.
To promote positive relationships with all Guenther Bakeries business partners.
To undertake any other duties which may be assigned in line with business requirements.

Numerate with the ability to analyse data to support decisions
High degree of flexibility and commitment as work may be required out of hours or at weekends

Computer skills (Microsoft packages)
Qualifications:
Minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar role.
Degree, HNC, A Levels and/or recent & relevant experience
