An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Critical Care dietetic team at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in the role of Principal Critical Care Dietitian on a full time permanent basis.
You will be the team lead for a friendly, dynamic and forward-thinking team who provide a patient-centered approach to care. Main duties of the job
* To independently co-ordinate and take responsibility for delivering a highly specialised dietetic service to all adult patients admitted to the Intensive Care unit (ICU) on the St Thomas’ site. To provide expert advice to respiratory patients across Guys and St Thomas including the HDU’s, Lane Fox Unit and Guys critical care unit.
* Use advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide highly specialist support and advice to dietetic and other clinical staff within and outside the organisation whilst maintaining a caseload of highly complex patients as an autonomous practitioner.
* To use expert knowledge and extensive clinical experience to lead on the development and strategic planning of the dietetic critical care service across the whole organisation utilising the principles of clinical governance.
* Identifies audit, service evaluation priorities within area of expertise to drive clinical development strategy.
* To be responsible for planning and delivering specialist training to medical staff, nurses, students and other health care professionals within the field of critical care.
Working for our organisation
The successful candidate will lead a critical care dietetic team and receive line management support from the Clinical and Operational Lead Dietitian of St Thomas' Hospital. In addition to this Band 8A Principal Dietitian post, the team includes 5 dietitians (3 x band 7’s, 2 x band 6) and an advanced dietetic assistant (1 x band 4). The team are highly regarded members of the critical care multi-disciplinary team.

Person specification
Qualifications/ Education
* 4 year degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent
* HCPC Registration
* Extensive post graduate training to Masters level or equivalent, relevant to specialist clinical area
Skills
* Advanced clinical reasoning skills and ability to make complex clinical judgements
* Ability to manage own and others’ time effectively and work to deadlines
* Advanced problem-solving skills, including the ability to resolve conflict and handle difficult situations effectively
* Ability to lead, motivate and influence senior clinicians to achieve patient-centred outcomes.
* Change management and facilitation skills
Experience
* At least 6 years’ broad clinical experience to include 3 years working in critical care
* Extensive lecturing/teaching experience to all health professionals, including senior medical staff
* Experience of leading research or audit
* Ability to and experience of the evaluation of service provision against recognised standards or guidelines and to lead service improvements
* Active participation in academic, professional or regional working parties for Critical care
* Motivational interviewing/ behaviour change /communication skills and/or counselling training
