The Inclusive Education and Learning Service are looking to appoint a full-time, 37 hours a week, Governance Services Manager to lead a dedicated team of governance professionals. The Governance Services Manager oversees and implements the statutory function of education governance for the local authority as well as leading comprehensive and well-respected traded services for Clerking, Training, and Development. This ensures that the capacity for strategic governance in the borough remains high with boards undertaking their core functions supporting school improvement effectively.
While expert knowledge is desirable, the applicant is expected to have a good understanding of governance law, statutory responsibilities of governing and trust boards, and an understanding of educational legislation and practice relevant to school and academy governance. The post holder will lead, develop, maintain, and quality assure the delivery of all statutory and traded service provision, ensuring these provide value for money and meet customer demand and expectation, while remaining competitive in the marketplace.
The Governance Services Manager will work closely with the Head of Strategic School Improvement and actively contribute to the Local Authority's School Improvement function, especially for boards requiring support and intervention through recognised support strategies.

Qualifications:
1. Min 4 GCSE's A-C (or equivalent) including English Language
2. Line management and administrative work experience
3. Understanding of governance law, statutory responsibilities of governing and trust boards, and educational legislation and practice relevant to school and academy governance
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking
5. Experience of service delivery, staff management, and budget management
6. Ability to undertake comprehensive governing board management, including effective minute-taking skills
