Job Description:
As an organisation we recognise the value of a healthy work-life balance. When applying, speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate flexible working, so your work life fits around your home life.
We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates as they are under-represented within the Trust.
Interview will be an assessment centre on the 19th February.
Are you looking for a rewarding yet challenging role where you can truly impact people’s lives?
We are seeking enthusiastic, compassionate, and dedicated individuals who share our Trust Values: Supportive, Respectful, Innovative, & Collaborative.
As a Health Care Support Worker (Band 2) at University Hospital Bristol & Weston —one of the largest acute NHS Trusts in the South West—you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care alongside our expert nursing teams. You will support registered nurses in providing essential care to adult patients, making a tangible difference in their recovery and well-being.
We currently have Band 2 vacancies on inpatient surgical and medical wards and the Intensive Care Unit.
What to Expect in This Role:
Working in an acute hospital setting can be fast-paced, physically demanding, and emotionally challenging. You will be caring for both male and female adult patients, including providing intimate personal care, while always ensuring dignity and respect.
You will need resilience, adaptability, and strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
You will be expected to work long day and night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays. Full time: 37.5hrs per week; Part time: 23hrs per week.
Your Responsibilities:
* Providing personal care to adult patients, including washing, toileting and continence care, while maintaining their privacy and dignity.
* Assisting with nutrition and hydration, ensuring patients receive the support they need with meals.
* Helping with mobility, including repositioning and providing pressure area care to promote comfort and prevent complications.
* Offering emotional support to patients and their families, recognizing the importance of kindness and reassurance in their care journey.
* Providing one-to-one observation for patients at high risk due to their clinical condition, ensuring their safety and well-being.
* Maintaining a clean and safe ward environment, playing a vital role in infection prevention and fall reduction.
* Escorting patients to other departments, such as X-ray, ensuring they feel supported throughout their care experience.
Your role is essential in ensuring that all patients feel safe, respected, and well cared for during their time with us.

* The ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment and handle the emotional and physical challenges of the role.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
* No previous experience required—we provide full training and ongoing support.
